Meet Will Ervin of Ervin Properties in Southwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Ervin.

Will, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Several years ago, my father asked me if I ever thought about buying houses. He did not know much about the process but wanted to see if it was something I was interested in. At the time, I did not have serious interest, but it was something in the back of my mind. Forward to 2017, and my father again mentioned real estate to me. A few days after talking to him, my wife started making comments about doing something to increase our income, like flipping houses. A few weeks after that, I began receiving emails about different real estate programs and events coming soon in the city. All of these moments in my life regarding real estate started to trigger more interest from me. For a few months, I did research and started to create a business as far as a registered name and tax id. I officially launched it in May of 2018. In the beginning, it was slow because I was still learning while running a business. In January of 2019, things started to change and Ervin Properties was a company I could look at as being a real company.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was not a smooth process. The biggest hurdles I faced was money and time required to start a new business. I was working 9 to 5. I had a few temporary side jobs at night and on the weekends. I used the extra income to put into the business, and also I had the responsibility of being a husband and father to my two girls. My wife is heaven sent because she sacrificed “date nights” to allow me to either work a side job or work on the business. She remained positive during the months when I was not bringing home money from the business and never distracted me from the goal as she knew we had a plan we discussed before starting the business.

Please tell us about the company.
Ervin Properties is a real estate company focused on buying land or houses and either rehabbing or selling the property “as-is” at an increased price to another investor. Our criteria for buying is vast, but most of the features we look to buy are houses that are vacant, abandoned, flooded, or fire damaged. Houses that have tax issues, probate properties, or houses in which the owner does not want for any reason. What makes Ervin Properties different from most real estate companies is we are direct and honest with sellers. If we cannot buy the property because it does not fit our needs or if the asking price is too high, we will let the seller know without delay.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
God deserves the most credit. I kept the faith, and God continued delivering. My wife and kids also deserve credit because they sacrificed also. My kids would ask questions and wanted to see me succeed; well, because as kids, they are looking for the return… My wife is one of the main reasons I try to stay successful. I work everyday thinking. I don’t want to let her down. I want to buy her this, and I want to do this or that for her. She has always had trust in me, and in due time, I will reward her in abundance.
