Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Lima.
Adriana, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved to the USA almost 20 years ago. At that time, I had a H4 visa that didn’t allow me to work (my husband held H1B). After studying so many years in Brazil as a Civil engineer with Masters in Geotechnics from a very prestigious university in Brazil and working as a City Planner, I saw myself completely dedicated to my husband and baby son at that time. The major challenge at the beginning was being far from my parents and raising my son far from them. As time went by, we got our green card, and I was pregnant with my second son, and after being in California for ten years, we decided to move to another state. We chose to move to Houston since my husband was working independently. Again I saw myself in a new city with lots to discover. Until today I remember the first thing they told me at the airport at our arrival when they were asking where we were from. “They said the Houston humidity was great for the skin.” Not only that, each day, I am more in love with people from here, especially after Harvey hurricane where we saw and experienced how caring people here are. After Harvey, I decided to go back to do something I love: “people and houses,” and I decided to get my realtors license, and I have being in love with what I can do for people—being by their side, getting them set for their great investments. Adding my background knowledge as a civil engineer, I could help them get them great deals. Because at the end the most important to me is their happiness and satisfaction with their new home.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Moving from one country to another is not that easy. It’s a learning process, and that is the beauty of it. The major struggle is not having family around, as I mentioned previously and also not knowing anyone at the new place. Again, this is the hardest part, but we grow stronger, and we start being more appreciative of everything we have in life, including our far-away family.
Please tell us about the business.
Today as a Realtor, what brings me joy is being able to help people finding their new home. Home is a very special place. It is a big investment, and it is a great decision in my client’s lives, and I get very excited to help them. I use my civil engineering and Marketing Communications (certificate I got from San Jose State university – CA) to help them negotiating the repairs and making great marketing advertising for their selling properties.
What sets me apart as a Realtor is my passion for people and houses. It is like a perfect match and I am always getting new training, so I am consistently updated with all real estate related topics. Today I am getting my Interior Design license, so I will help my clients even more by setting their home apart from others with no extra cost for them. The mojo is “live with purpose,” and my purpose is to help people to be happy.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am passionate about what I do. I care for my clients, treating them professionally, listening for all their wants and wishes keeping their interests at heart when negotiating the deal. By the end, the most important for me is to see their happiness and having their referrals.
