Meet Charlie Watkins of Burger and Bordeaux in Woodlands and Conroe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie Watkins.

Charlie, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been a Chef/Restaurant owner in Inner Loop Houston starting in 1984. My previous restaurants include Sierra Grill, Blue Agave, Café Toulouse Bayou Bend, and The Tavern on Gray. From 2012 until I opened Burger and Bordeaux in 2019, I took a sabbatical traveling in Asia and Europe. I decided to open a “Casual Steakhouse” named Burger and Bordeaux and chose the Marcell Town Center in 1488 near the Woodlands. My menu is a selection of great Steaks, Burgers, Salads, and Appetizers featuring a Full Bar and a Dynomite Wine List.

Has it been a smooth road?
Always bumps in the road, but looking back – I see nothing but great memories and experiences. I was lucky enough to be invited to cook and teach all over the USA, Europe, and Asia. I now have a great group of friends I met as co-workers and customers.

Please tell us about your business.
Burger and Bordeaux is a large 7700 sq.ft restaurant. We specialize in Aged Angus Beef Steaks, Double Meat Burgers, Fabulous French Fries, and cold Appetizers and Salads. This is accompanied by a Full Bar (including some hard to find Bourbons) and a bargain-priced, Personally selected Wine List of about 100 varieties. Our goal is to provide Great Food and Service in a Casual Fun Atmosphere at a moderate price. Cheer!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the friendly people and the open feel of Houston. I think it is the friendliest large city in the world. I also love the great variety of awesome but moderately priced restaurants. I am not a fan of the periodic flooding.
