Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kelsei LeAnn.
Dr. LeAnn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
From a very young age, I knew I was destined for more. I knew that I had an influence. I gave my life to Christ at 16 years old. This is where my influence kicked in, I hosted an online prayer call in 2013, the first call had about ten people on it, the second call had 50 people, third call had 200, fourth call had 500, and by the next month, I had over 10,000 young people from all over the country call in for prayer. I knew that I wanted to help people (on a deeper level) but didn’t know-how. I eventually (through my dad) learned about psychology, and I was SET on being a therapist, I knew this was what I was supposed to be doing. I started out my journey at Southern University A&M College, while at southern, I discovered the Hope Bible Institute. HBI allowed me to accomplish my life-long dream in three years! I’m now a licensed therapist. I’m enrolled at Sam Houston State University to become a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner so that I can bridge the gap between therapists and psychiatrists.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It wasn’t a smooth road. Being 22 and accomplishing all of this, I faced many obstacles, one being my age and being discredited for it.
Please tell us about your business.
The You Effect is an online business dedicated to educating black and minority communities about childhood trauma, boundaries, and emotional wellness while providing accessible and attainable mental health services. As a company, I’m the proudest of being the voice for a community that’s overlooked.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m looking forward to having my own tv show in the future and opening my own clinic.
