Today we’d like to introduce you to Leroy Williams.
Leroy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got my first start with Big Tyme Records. Big shout out to Russel. The first artist I worked with in Houston was Point Blank. I then signed to Work Camp Production by the VP of Rap A Lot Big Chief. This is where I made my mark in the game with a ton of production I did for RAL. I was signed to Work Camp in 1996. In 2004 I started my own label and released my first project with Slim Thug and Lil Keke called Big Unit. Years a cultivating a sound for Houston got me a lot of looks from people such as Nipsey Hussle. I was able to link with him and create several records. 2 of the stand out records we have are Blue Laces 1 and 2. We earned a Grammy Nomination and a Gold single and Platinum album for our efforts. I’m currently living in Dallas, where I am starting a film production company and a record label. I have a documentary called 20 Years Of Power. We have won 2 film festival awards and will be releasing the documentary in April.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. There is always something to learn. The business is the most important part. I’ve stumbled several times throughout my career, but it always makes me wiser as I learn.
Please tell us about your music.
XMG Music and XMG Vision is a record label and a film production company. I am gearing up to release several projects on my label. The first 2 are my Compilation record Power and my new artist Candy (Candy Land). On the film side, we have my documentary releasing in April. And I’m working on a tv show and several other projects as we speak.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory as a kid would be playing the piano in church with my dad. That’s when I first fell in love with music.
