Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Tidwell.
Tracy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Five years ago, I started helping people save money on a bill they have to pay each and every month working as an independent consultant with Ambit Energy. I had been a lifelong educator for almost 27 years. Education was my life. I started with this company to help people and it has now allowed me to help people not only in the Houston area but all over the world. My biggest market is right here in the Houston area but Ambit Energy is in 16 states, Washington D.C. and now Japan. We continue to open new markets constantly. By helping people save money on their electricity bill, it could mean to a family that they have more to eat on the table, are able to pay off their debts faster or they have more to put back into their pockets and their budgets. I have become an Executive Consultant with this company just by helping as many people as possible and have been on the cover “Success From Home Magazine” twice and featured in the magazine “Uncommon Me”. In our communities, all over Houston we speak of “shopping local”. That’s exactly what being a customer of Ambit Energy is. We don’t pay for ads, billboards, commercials, etc. We give the savings back to our customers. God gave me this business as a ministry to help others and I am blessed that I am able to help. People are placed in my path daily that desperately need more money in their pockets and I am able to help them do exactly that. I am no longer in education but am still in the education business of educating people on how to save money on a bill they must pay month after month after month.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road along the way in my business has not been smooth sailing everyday People truly don’t know what they are paying for electricity. There are so many different companies and plans to choose from. How do they know what’s right for them? I have found that educating all people shows them what a great company we have that is usually able to save them an average of 25 to 30 %. Many people don’t like change.
Many people are paying huge amounts to the large companies just because they’ve been with them for long periods of time and may not even understand that people in deregulated energy areas are able to switch. It’s the same electricity coming into their homes. It’s the same deliverer maintaining their meters. So why not save money instead of paying too much?

I specialize in saving people money on their electricity bill. Ambit Energy has received many awards and kudos. We were ranked number 1 in Inc. 500 Magazine in 2010 and made the list again in 2011. We have been ranked number 1 in customer service by JD Powers several years in a row. We have an A+ rating with the BBB and we are ranked as one of the top businesses by the Direct Selling Association. All this and we are only an 11-year-old company. Most of our competition businesses have been in business an average of over 50 years. What a feat it is for our company, an 11-year-old company, to be one of the fastest growing privately held companies. We are a billion-dollar company with millions of customers. Our motto is “Never Sacrifice Integrity for Growth”. We abide by that.
What were you like growing up?
I am an only child and grew up in a Christian home with a stay at home mom and my dad who was a principal of a school and a deacon in our church. I was always a very outgoing and independent kid who loved people. My mom and dad taught me morals and values to live by and I have continued my Christian walk all of my life. I love animals and have always loved making and creating things whether it be painting or crafts.
