Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Boyett.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up a local Houston girl and always had a creative spark. I never wanted to be anything but a photographer. It all began at the mall in 2005. I got my start in a busy family studio, where I thrived. Eventually, I decided to return to school to study graphic design and began working for an independent photographer, specializing in high school seniors and weddings. In 2013, I made my pilgrimage back to the country and fell in love all over again. Commuting was a huge drag, so I began to search for work near my new home in Montgomery. I worked for a prominent wedding photographer and wanted to fill the needs of our brides becoming new moms. When I decided to develop a family focused company, I got back to my roots and remembered why I loved spending time with the new babies and families so many years ago.
Has it been a smooth road?
Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart! There were many times I wanted to give up and do something else. I often felt like things just weren’t falling into place fast enough. Photography has become such an over-saturated and carnivorous industry. I struggled to find the right place for my business. As an artist, the biggest pitfall is comparing your work or your journey to other artists. Persistence has certainly paid off for me. I spent 9 years working under other professionals and learning everything I could to prepare myself before going out on my own. I think my focus on educating myself in all things photography has really paid off. You should never stop learning your craft.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in photographing families with new babies and young children. I strive to capture my clients first year with a new baby and sometimes beyond. I think I am most known for my outdoor images. I tend to like sunny, colorful scenes. Lately, because of my partnership with Storkvision 3D/4D Ultrasound of The Woodlands, I am becoming known for my in-home newborn sessions. I take the pressure off new parents by coming to their home and photographing them in their own environment. I am most proud of my journey and well, my images! Seeing my creative vision come to life and having that vision mean so much to my clients is priceless. What sets me apart from others is the way I treat my clients, like friends. They trust me to capture some of their most precious moments. In return, I give them the sincerity they deserve.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston is AMAZING! Even though I’m about 45 minutes out of town, I try to take advantage of all the city has to offer. There is such an amazing community of photographers here. If someone were just starting out, they would have a plethora of resources in Houston to help them get started. As far as improvement goes, I’m sure we can all agree traffic could be better.
