Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Placide.
Crystal, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m a Houstonian by way of New Orleans. I relocated to Houston after Hurricane Katrina. When I moved here, I did loan processing for a mortgage company. I always was interested in real estate but didn’t think the timing was right. I moved back to New Orleans in 2008 and worked in the hospitality industry. I was tired of a job and wanted a career, so I decided to pursue real estate finally. Once licensed, I was sponsored by ReMax Signature but didn’t feel that was the place for me. I began to lose my motivation until I met my current broker Kimberly Dixon-Dudley. Its been a pleasure working with someone encouraging and supportive.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not! My mother drowned trying to save two little girls in the bayou when I was nine. Growing up without a mother alone was hard. I was raised by my great-great-aunt who died from cancer when I was thirteen. Thank God, my grandmother, who stepped in and took on the role of my mother. I had a set of twins at the age of seventeen and another son at nineteen. By twenty, I was a single parent. My grandmother and my auntie Dorinda helped me with the boys. I was extremely blessed to have a family that loves and supported me. Despite my having kids early, I graduated high school on time and was accepted into Dillard University.
Kimberly Lane Properties – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I work mostly on leasing. I love helping people. A lot of my clients are just moving from home for the first time and aren’t sure what questions to ask or what the process entails. I escort them to apartment communities and make sure they have an understanding of what’s going on and make sure they get the best deals. I also make sure my clients are satisfied by providing exceptional service.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is when you have reached the goals you’ve set to achieve and can live life on your own terms. One of the markers of success for me was my real estate license. It was something I truly wanted, and I put in the necessary work to obtain it.
