Today we’d like to introduce you to David Flowers Jr.
Thanks for sharing your story with us David. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Smoked and Ready is the creation of David Flowers, Jr., a retired firefighter from Chicago. I saw my fair share of smoke while serving as a firefighter for over 20 years. My career was cut short due to an injury suffered while combating a structure fire. Later I packed up and moved my family to Houston. At the fire house is where I discovered my enthusiasm for cooking and passion for smoked meats. After years of cooking for my fellow firefighters, community events and special occasions once retired, I started Smoked and Ready.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road for me. One of the greatest challenges that I’ve encountered has been trying to get my name out there in a new city—also trying to start a business with limited funds.
Smoked and Ready – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Whatever your carnivorous delight, be it brisket, salmon, baby back ribs, turkey, or chicken, it’s Smoked and Ready for you! Formulated with a perfectly balanced dry rub and infusing numerous flavors of wood like apple, cherry, hickory, mesquite, and oak and finally setting the right pit temperature, I’ve created the unique smoked experience all guests will love. Our food is quality, unprocessed and fresh. What sets apart is the burst of flavor that is like no other—best Smoked Salmon you’ve ever had.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
One of the proudest moments that I’ve had so far was when I had the pleasure of catering The Oak Ridge High School basketball program athletic awards ceremony of which my son was a member of the varsity team.
