Today we’d like to introduce you to Wayne Turner.
Wayne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
About five years ago, when I was attending The University of Houston-Downtown I began to search for what kind of clothing I wanted to design. I knew I wanted to invest in some fashion style and felt that street-wear wasn’t interesting to me at that time. It was both couture and high-end ready to wear styles that intrigued me. When I first started, I was asking people in the Houston fashion scene for insight and direction to getting started. I continue to conduct extensive research while on my journey with little experience in the fashion industry. With the support of my team, we’re a few months away from releasing our first Fall collection.
Has it been a smooth road?
I can say it has not been a smooth ride along the road, but I do enjoy the process, which is great. Finding people that I can trust and believe in to build something from scratch was one of the struggles I encountered. Finding the right quality that my luxury brand holds to a standard was a process. I have also encountered traveling to different states like CA and NY only to waste time and money with half-working businesses who took my hard-earned money. When it was time to deliver the product, the quality was subpar, and I was livid, but giving up wasn’t an option. Fighting through the storm and staying consistent got me here, and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon.

Dhanir is wealth. Dhanir is for the individual that not only acquired financial success but also developed the state of mind to remain in such a way. Our brand targets those who did not accept failure in the face of adversity or the bare minimum of mediocrity. It is for the one who learned from their mistakes, returned to the game, and persevered to reach their desires. Regardless of gender and race, our designs are directed toward high-end luxury consumers, both men and women. For many years to come, our clothing will be for the high end consumer who has achieved success, obtained great knowledge, and adopted a state of mind that will resonate for generations to come.
I Wayne Turner is the co-founder and Creative Director at Dhanir where I sketch my designs, and it travels through the graphic design process. Next, me and our seamstress apply all the pieces together to create the perfect garment. Dhanir is known for its bold circle armor pattern, and strong symbolic logo that’s resembles a horn on the sword of the richest and most powerful emperor (Mansa Musa) of all time. I am proud of my team and everyone who helped me get to where I am now with Dhanir, and I can’t wait for my brand to go global.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like about my city (Houston) is our culture and the opportunities that are present. I never really thought Houston had these until I started my Dhanir journey while networking and meeting really helpful people. What I like least about my city is the hot scorching sun, which makes it hard to wear layered clothing and the traffic.
