Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Fontenot.
Andrew, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Honestly, I’ve always loved working with a camera dating back to when everyone wanted those cool myspace pictures for their pages. One Christmas my mom decided to buy herself an hp Photo Smart camera, so she could document family gatherings and special events. The only thing wrong with that was that she wasn’t the best with technology. That’s where I came in to save the day; I was assigned to the camera responsibilities. I had no idea what I was doing either, but instinct kicked in and I just began to point and click. Fast forward 10-12 years and at this point I had moved from Port Arthur, TX To Houston. During this time I had not touched a camera outside a cellphone camera. In Houston I was able to meet and make new friends. One friend in particular was starting to develop his own photography business and it reminded me of the times I was the cousin or nephew that was always the “camera guy.” It made me want to dive back into it but it was intimidating coming back to the photography world after so long. I decided to take a leap of faith and invest in myself, so I purchased my first DSLR camera. I hit the ground running and just became a sponge, learning about anything camera related. I started out taking pictures of friends and random things around my home or general area. Before I knew it, the word spread like wildfire that I was an up and coming photographer looking to work with others. One client turned into two and fast forward to today I’ve been able to work with numerous individuals. It has truly allowed me to broaden my range of creativity and capture those beautiful and memorable moments that with one click will last forever.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge has been trying to keep up with all the technology available and constantly being introduced. As a photographer I try to stay informed on what works best or what’s new, but honestly to this day it still feels as if I’m playing catch up with it all. That being said, it keeps me hungry and constantly wanting to learn something new.
Fontenot Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a Houston, TX based photographer who specializes in creating a comfortable and fun experience for individuals wanting to capture the moments that will be memories forever. I focus on being creative which allows me to be able to give clients multiple unique styles and perspectives for their sessions.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I haven’t truly felt as if I’ve had a moment of that nature. I constantly feel the need to grow and move forward. I feel it keeps me in the mind frame of “I can always do better.”
