Meet Lacie Heckathorne of Lacie Grace Interior Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacie Heckathorne.

Lacie, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m local Interior Designer born and raised right here in Houston. As a kid I was fascinated with architectural details and color. I would drive my mom crazy with rearranging the furniture in my room and trying out new designs. At the time I had no idea I was practicing to be an interior designer! I travelled quite a bit through college, and I learned that I love to explore new places and cultures. This world is full of so many beautiful things and inspiration is everywhere, you just have to stop for a minute and look around. I met my husband in college and he, along with our two kids, share my love of travel and exploring. We like to live a fun and laid-back lifestyle! All of these things lead me to starting my own business and helped me get to where I am today!
Has it been a smooth road?
Owning a small business is definitely NOT a smooth road, but the struggles are so worth it for my family! Early on I knew I had the talent and skill I needed to be successful, but I didn’t really know much about business. There are so many tasks involved behind the scenes to make a business successful and I had to learn most of those the hard way. I spent countless hours reading books, listening to podcasts, youtube videos, and relying on advice from fellow designers to find solutions that work for me. To this day, I spend a lot of time evaluating each project – what went well and what didn’t and why. The helps me to keep honing my skills and better my business so that I can provide the absolute best service I can each and every time.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I started my business in 2012 and since then I have been focusing on residential interior design and remodeling. I offer both full service interior design and consulting and I am known for being a family friendly, client focused, and fun interior designer. My education is in commercial interiors which can be fun, but I was missing the personal connections that you get from a residential project. That moment when a client sees their completed home and says “Wow, I just feel so relaxed here and I absolutely love it!” is why I love doing what I do and it’s a big reason for why I started my business. I love being involved in every step and decision of each project. It is my goal to have a personal connection with each client and really get to know who they are as a person so that I can pair those little details with a great design to create a beautiful home that completely represents their individual and unique lifestyles. Being a client focused design firm also means that each one of my projects look different from the next and that has been so fun to navigate!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think our city is a great place for interior design! There’s a lot of diversity here which leaves you with a lot of opportunity. We have lots of places to find great design, art, and museums so there is inspiration everywhere!
