Today we’d like to introduce you to Arline Robinson and Kesha Young.
Arline and Kesha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Kesha and I met in 6th grade as I was the new valley kid coming from a California getting prepared to live a southern life. Kesha made the transition easy and since the day we met, we have been inseparable. After leaving Texas for seven years to attend college, we came back together in 2007, when I moved back to Texas. Kesha and I had a separate career and we’re happy with what we were doing. Kesha loves dentistry and I was in management.
Because of our go-getter personality me and Kesha prepared our family taxes on the side but thinking no more of it but just some extra change during tax time. One day conversing on an issue a family member was having with taxes we soon discovered if we brought my clientele together, we can form a true tax business. So we begin to figure out where can our initial investment come from. We pondered on this for weeks as both of our individual credit scores was not where it needed to be to get a startup loan.
I then reached out to my brother, a truck driver and asked him to look at the business plan we made and see if he will give us a shot. He said YES!!! We haven’t looked back since we have grown from 60 clients to over 800 clients in 4 years. We have three locations and six contractors and four employees. We have educated ourselves to where I am an Enrolled Agent and Kesha is a Certified Bookkeeper. We seek education on tax law every year to make sure we are up to date on changing for our clients. We continue to provide excellent customer service as we know that is how our business is continuing to grow year after year.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The struggle was getting the funding to start the business and trusting that everyone you are trying to do business with you are good people. We wasted a lot of money on advertising that did not bring us any clients. Doing this has helped us make wiser decisions with our marketing budget.
