Today we’d like to introduce you to Seth Samuelson.
Seth, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m originally from a little place called Taylor, TX and came to Houston after graduating from Texas A&M in 2013. Between that time and now, my Dad and I came up with our revolutionary garden tool, the SeCa Hose Holder. He originally came up with it one day in the garden after his back had been killing him from the past week of work. He needed something to keep him from bending over to pick up the water hose and it did just that!
About a week later, I came into the picture after coming home to see him and my mom. He showed me this first prototype and it was love at first sight! I immediately saw the helpfulness this tool could provide and knew we couldn’t keep it to ourselves. I knew there were so many other hard-working people out there like my Dad with chronic back pain and other disabilities that could really benefit from having a tool like this.
From that day forward, we partnered up as a father & son team and began taking all the necessary steps to turn the SeCa Hose Holder into a real business! After receiving our patent, building a website, officially forming the business, and manufacturing our first batch of units (Fun Fact: We make them here in Texas and use American steel!); We launched for business in October of 2018. Since that time, we’ve primarily sold online and began to retail in many local independent garden centers all across the Houston area!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a pretty smooth road for the most part! I’m a civil engineer by day, so a lot of my critical thinking/planning skills have carried over from that world! I would say the biggest challenge has been finding the time to take the business to the places I know we can go! Working a full-time job during the day and maintaining my current lifestyle hasn’t been easy. I’ve found that communication is always key to keeping up with those valued relationships and having a close support group around helps out tremendously! At the end of the day, if your heart and passion is there for something you love, you will do whatever it takes to be successful at it!
Please tell us about the SeCa Hose Holder.
The SeCa Hose Holder is a revolutionary home and garden tool that is primarily used to eliminate the back-breaking act of bending over to pick up a water/garden hose. However, it can be used for virtually any hands-free and hassle-free task your imagination can come up with for using a water hose! (Think: Washing off both your hands at the same time without placing the hose between your knees, spot watering your plants, kinking the hose when not using a nozzle, etc.)
I am involved with every business aspect of the company from A to Z. I thoroughly enjoy being the wearer of the many hats that come along with the role! I’m known for being incredibly enthusiastic & passionate about wanting to help others out and make their lives just a little more convenient.
I’m most proud of being a part of something that truly is so unique and helpful. There’s nothing else like it! It has always been a dream of mine to make an impact on the world and I couldn’t be any happier it’s through the SeCa Hose Holder!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Of course! I grew up incredibly close with my immediate family. My Aunt and Uncle lived across the street and my grandparents were all just a few miles away. We were always big on family gatherings every other week or so and they were some of the funnest times in my life. It didn’t matter what we were doing or what the occasion was, but we always had a great time together as a family. I wouldn’t trade those days for the world!
