Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Ayala.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Karen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got pregnant in January of 2019 and my goal was always to be able to stay at home and be able to see my baby grow up and all of her milestones. My inspiration was always my daughter and the life that I wanted to create with her. At the same time, I did not want to lose myself in motherhood so I knew I had to become something and still have goals and accomplishments for myself even while caring for my daughter at home. My husband knowing all of this, bought me a book called “Business Boutique” by Christy Wright. Once I began to read the book during my maternity leave, it inspired me to open a business, I didn’t know exactly what yet but I knew I wanted to because having my own business from home is exactly what I desired since I still get to take care of my daughter. I then randomly started watching videos and doing a lot of research on how people started businesses. I came across a lot of DIY videos and I’ve always loved making my own things so this was always a hobby of mine. I just didn’t realize it could be more than just a hobby, it could be a business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all. Taking care of a baby and having a business while also working part-time from home for my current job is a struggle. Even though I love my business and I love that I get to be creative and create there are days I rather go to sleep early or rest but I know that won’t get me to where I need to be with my business so I stay up and post or take pictures and pack orders for my business. It’s a lot of work and a lot of time even if it is something I love to do.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Made By Kay story. Tell us more about the business.
What set’s me apart is not only my “WHY” which is why I do all of this but also All of my products are Vegan, All Natural, Non-Toxic, Cruelty-Free and all are handmade by me. I make Lip Glosses, Lip Scrubs, Body Scrubs & Lip Oil’s. What I am most proud of is my work, I love making these products because I genuinely love using them too, they are so healthy for your skin that I feel good using them and having others try them. I am also so proud that people love my products so much that they are purchasing more and more. I am so proud that people are loving them!
