Meet Jennifer Burnett of JBistro Style Chef Services in Cypress

Jennifer, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my company ten years ago and it stemmed from friends, family and coworkers telling me I needed to sell my food. After years of encouragement, I finally jumped in headfirst. I did small parties on the weekends while working fulltime. And it grew over time. When I had my second child eight years ago, we learned soon after that, he had special needs and would require Mommy to be with him on a pretty constant basis. That is when I decided to do this full time so I could make my own schedule and be there for him and my older daughter.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road. At one point, I was working three jobs, had two kids and a husband to be there for.

JBistro Style Chef Services – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Primarily I have focused on private chef and catering corporate events. I am most known for my family meals and desserts. I am most proud of the fact that I am completely self-taught and now have a regular following and desire for my food. What sets me apart from others is, in my opinion, being self-taught gives me the attitude of “there are no rules in the kitchen.”

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
When I was asked to contribute some of my recipes to a local magazine for their Holiday cooking segment. And donating my food and services to A Taste of Cy-Fair, Katy Sip and Stroll and Wine Fair Cy-Fair.
