Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Mealy 3rd.
Matthew, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
This story begins in the West-End of Richmond, VA. Circumstances in my life helped me realize that we all need support in our Journey into adulthood. Even having support as an adult has been impactful. People being there for me as a young man made a difference and helped to influence my decision making through important stages of my life. By far, these moments weren’t perfect, But it helped to have people in my life, which gave me the opportunity to share and connect my personal challenges to experiences while gaining wisdom. Today, I want to be the experience that will assist and encourage a young man through their challenges. Challenges should not determine our destination, but instead be our motivation and inspiration. Everyday I have the power of decision and I always keep this in mind. Our day should start with opportunities and should conclude with our accomplishments. Many days survival is a prime objective for some people, I remember those days. I am inspired to support and excited about the opportunities for every young man to succeed. Energy, effort, and execution of this magnitude will create a legacy I can be proud of.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It takes more than ideas to create experiences and outcomes. Building PUSH has been an educational, emotional, and economic investment. All the things that we desire for each young man in the PUSH program had to be applied to build the momentum toward success. There have been plenty of learning curves to overcome in the development of this vision. I know there is a possibility for more curves as we mature, so the inspiration and desire to build a community of young men who value life and are capable of finding balance in life is more important than any challenge I will face.
Please tell us about P.U.S.H. (Promoting Understanding Strengthens Humanity).
Empowering young males to achieve a balanced life free of hopelessness and full of purpose by exposing them to an array of economically relevant industries, providing counseling, and a mentoring program. This program is a holistic approach to supporting and encouraging communities of young men who are often overlooked and marginalized because of their zip code. We are proud to be positioned to reach the unreached. We are proud to be a company that believes in the potential of not only ourselves but others.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have focused on my vision much sooner than later. Growth is a process of life that we all experience, so that growth had to take place before I could arrive where I am today.
