Today we’d like to introduce you to Shania Brown.
Shania, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been doing hair since I was in middle school, I would always stop then find my way back to it. One day my husband told me I need to do it as a strict business and not just a side hustle. Once I got back from overseas in the military in 2018, I started to do hair more and more sharpening my skills. Then I begin selling hair extensions. At first, I wasn’t too confident in myself, but overtime he made me get confident to where I am now. Now I do hair, make custom wigs and sell bundles and lately it has really taken a turn once I started doing custom wigs. I made this one wig that ended up being re-created 10 different times. I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy doing it. I quit my 9-5 job to strictly do hair. It took a while for me to just quit my job, I didn’t think it would go anywhere but it did!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been easy at all. Especially when I quit my job during the Covid-19, it started very slow and I had to figure out a strategy and do something that would set me apart. So, I would watch my husband make this talking promo videos and he would shout me out all the time on Instagram. I grew the confidence to start making my own talking videos and that made people watch more and see my talent in the wigs and it just went from there overnight.
Please tell us about your business.
My business is The Glam Hair Trap. It’s about hair hustling. Because for me, this is how I provide a living and my husband taught me really how to hustle. Don’t sleep, go get it! And my passion has always been hair. So, I took it and made something out of it not thinking where it would take me. I’m now known for my custom wigs, that’s my specialty. As well as my silk presses! I would have to say that set me apart from others is my drive, determine, ambition, my goofy videos I post when I’m promoting my new dropping wigs.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Yes, I would. I would have taken it more seriously than I did before.
