Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikkia Jones.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nikkia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Since I was a little girl, I was always told by family and friends that I would become a model someday. I was always the tallest in my class and had unique features that made me stand out. I even learned to walk in heels at five years old by watching America’s Next Top Model. I did not start modeling until a few years ago four months after having my baby girl Autumn. There was this Facebook ad searching for Runway Models for a paid gig. Of course, I annoyed my boyfriend with the many questions I had about whether to show up or not and all the wonderful possibilities of making a career out of modeling. His response, “girl do it, you won’t ever know until you try.” I absolutely gave this a try and have no regrets. I was super nervous at the audition; I had no idea what a comp card or what a “real” model walk looked like. I found out later that week that I was actually casted amongst seven other models. I was the only model who had no experience what so ever and it mad de me feel super special. I was so honored to be able to work with such a talented designer, Oonarissa Bernard. I have also worked with other designers and brands such as Chasity Sereal, Garifashion, Jessica Lombana, Lupita Vargas and so many more. This began my journey to Runway Modeling.
Further along this journey, I competed in the Miss Model USA 2019 pageant known as Miss Asia Pacific International and I am currently Miss Model USA 2019 second runner. As of today, I have my very own mentorship program named All Girls Matter Organization. I am extremely excited to share the program with the world. All Girls Matter organization Focuses on young ladies 7-18 years old. All Girls Matter Mentorship program will launch mid-June 2020. I am also super excited to meet and assist young ladies in need of mentorship and guidance. I also have a family YouTube channel (Keke & Kev) which will share my life experiences and also share more about myself, my goals and businesses (j. n’s crafts & Designs).
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I must admit the road has not always been easy. As a model, you come across people who will either help you, take advantage or deliberately not care about what you have to say. I have had both good and bad experiences with modeling but I am glad to have overcome them. The best advice I can give to a beginning model would be to do thorough research about photographers and modeling agencies and don’t ever be afraid to speak up for yourself because there will be times when professionals tell you that you are not valuable or that you are not good enough, it is up to you to prove them wrong.
Please tell us about your work.
All Girls Matter Mentorship Program Focuses primarily on young ladies ages 7-18 years old. The program helps establishes self-confidence, self-awareness and assists with daily life challenges. We believe every girl should have a mentor in their life who is willing to inspire those young ladies to grown into intelligent, beautiful, confident and fierce young women. We encourage every girl to resist their fears by facing those fears and overcoming it with Love, love for themselves and love for others. All Girls Matter is not only a sisterhood but also a sisterhood that lasts for a long time even after the young ladies’ graduate from high school. Ladies who graduate will graduate from All Girls Matter by becoming young women of society through a crowning induction ceremony. This will introduce the community to the next generation of young ladies who possess class, intelligence and unique talent and skills ready to take on the world.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe in God. My faith in him is why I am able to succeed at whatever I put my mind to. He has blessed me my whole entire life and gotten me out of situations i had no control over. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” I have always believed in that verse. My grandmother (rest in heaven) taught me that.
