Meet Colby Wilson of Dynasty Creatives in SW Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colby Wilson.

Colby, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I‌ am Colby, Founder and Director of Dynasty Creatives. I am ‌a‌ ‌curator‌ ‌who‌ ‌creates‌ epic ‌experiences‌ ‌by‌ ‌providing‌ ‌clients‌ ‌with‌ ‌an intentional‌ ‌attention‌ ‌to‌ every ‌minute‌ ‌detail. I am grateful that my artistically inclined intuition works with my experience and areas of expertise to provide clients with unforgettable experiences! Having‌ ‌earned‌ ‌a‌ ‌Bachelor‌ ‌of‌ ‌Arts‌ ‌degree‌ ‌in‌ ‌Theatre,‌ ‌Dynasty Creatives is‌ ‌the‌ ‌manifestation‌ ‌of‌ ‌all‌ ‌the‌ ‌things‌ ‌I‌ ‌am‌ ‌passionate‌ ‌about;‌ ‌artistic‌ ‌programming,‌ ‌effective‌ ‌administration,‌ ‌relevant‌ ‌education,‌ ‌strategic‌ ‌organizing‌ ‌and‌ ‌planning and‌ ‌a‌ ‌platform‌ ‌to‌ ‌engage‌ ‌the‌ ‌community.‌ ‌I’ve‌ ‌always‌ ‌been‌ ‌a‌ ‌teacher‌ ‌and‌ ‌a‌ ‌planner‌ ‌and‌ ‌as‌ ‌my‌ ‌mother‌ ‌states,‌ ‌“He’s‌ ‌been‌ ‌teaching‌ ‌and‌ ‌performing‌ ‌for‌ ‌20‌ ‌years,‌ ‌since‌ ‌birth‌ ‌really.”‌ I‌ ‌spent‌ ‌my‌ ‌childhood‌ ‌and‌ ‌young‌ ‌adult‌ ‌life‌ ‌performing‌ ‌as‌ ‌a‌ ‌singer,‌ ‌actor,‌ ‌and‌ ‌model.‌ ‌As‌ ‌a‌ ‌teenager,‌ ‌my‌ ‌interests‌ ‌of‌ ‌being‌ ‌on‌ ‌stage,‌ ‌shifted‌ ‌and‌ ‌I‌ ‌discovered‌ ‌that‌ ‌I‌ ‌was‌ ‌more‌ ‌interested‌ ‌in‌ ‌teaching,‌ ‌programming‌ ‌and‌ ‌the‌ ‌management‌ ‌part‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌creative‌ ‌process.‌ ‌In‌ ‌high‌ ‌school‌ ‌I‌ ‌started‌ ‌my‌ ‌county’s‌ ‌first‌ ‌public‌ ‌high‌ ‌school‌ ‌gospel‌ ‌choir,‌ ‌The‌ ‌Heritage‌ ‌Chorale.‌ ‌The‌ ‌choir‌ ‌thrived‌ ‌which‌ ‌gave‌ ‌me‌ ‌the‌ ‌opportunity‌ ‌to‌ ‌work‌ ‌with‌ ‌various‌ ‌church‌ ‌and‌ ‌community‌ ‌choirs.‌ ‌While‌ ‌earning‌ ‌my‌ ‌Theatre‌ ‌degree,‌ ‌I‌ ‌started‌ ‌working‌ ‌with‌ ‌vocal‌ ‌coach‌, ‌Robert‌ ‌‘RAab’‌ ‌Stevenson‌ ‌of‌ ‌Kimad‌ ‌Productions.‌ ‌Under‌ ‌the‌ ‌tutelage‌ ‌of‌ ‌RAab,‌ ‌I‌ ‌began‌ ‌to‌ ‌learn‌ ‌more‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌beautiful‌ ‌complexities‌ ‌of‌ ‌being‌ ‌a‌ ‌performing‌ ‌artist‌ ‌and‌ ‌the‌ ‌encompassing‌ ‌process‌ ‌of‌ ‌developing‌ ‌an‌ ‌artist.‌

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I am blessed to have always been aware of my passions. I’ve been doing some sort of creative work since I was a kid, so it is totally exciting to see my goals evolve, grow, and come into fruition. Allocating time efficiently has been a challenge. I’ve also found myself at war with my talents, finding a way to balance my time and prioritizing what to develop and when has been trying. Balancing the expenses of everyday life, while remaining consistent with my commitment to developing my brand has served as a challenge, but also a source of motivation.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Dynasty Creatives is a multi-faceted arts firm; offering services in event programming and management, artistic development and community engagement. I’m so proud of my business because I’ve basically been doing it my whole life. I started with my siblings and teddy bears! ☺️ I’m also proud of the fact that the company is rooted in culturally responsive programming with the specific intention on engaging those who have an interest in the arts. Being that I am an artist and educator, my business strategically blends the worlds of art and entertainment with rich cultural content that is often enlightening. Dynasty Creatives will eventually launch a performing arts academy that will develop youth in the areas of event management performing arts. I was given a chance professionally by volunteering and working as an intern, Dynasty Creatives will afford youth will those same kinds of work experience and intentional networking.

What were you like growing up?
I was always singing, writing, directing, acting, posing, and eating! I always knew I wanted work as a performer, but I also enjoyed the creative process, so I began creating my own shows and events, which I still have some of my childhood scripts, songs, and production schedules. II enjoyed dressing well and going to church for the music, consequently making me a much sought-after ring bearer. I took my wedding and church commitments very seriously and never wavered from the arts. I spent a lot of my early childhood with my grandparents, so I also picked up some of their storytelling and impersonation skills. I was like a walking production.
