Meet Amayah Smith of A Part Of Christ

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amayah Smith.

Amayah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I dealt with a lot of insecurity in my life and there were times when I tried to appear to be perfect when I wasn’t. I was unsure of who I was and who I needed to become, so I searched for my identity in things that could not give me fulfillment in becoming the person I should have been in my entirety. I’ve experienced a lot of depression, I’ve had anxiety and wanted to commit suicide because there was a huge void missing and I couldn’t fill it. I then searched for love in all of the wrong places. I experienced my first heartbreak which ultimately led me to doing self-harm because it not only made me feel more insecure about myself and my image but it gave me a feeling of being unworthy, and unaccepted. I am where I am today because of my Mom, my church family, and most importantly God Himself. In the darkest time in my life, He shown me who He was in my life, and held me close so I could find who I was in Him. I’ve been guided by the wise words of my mom and made the decision to know God more than I did in that moment. He gave me clarity and I learned that from the beginning, He was and will always be my first love. I didn’t have to search for it because He loved me first. I have learned that I am defined by the One who created me and not by the things He’s created. With all that I’ve gone through, came out my very first book ‘Who Does God Say You Are?’ and a blog page that could be found at www.apartofchrist.com.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all because my mind had been analyzing and meditating on lies that I’ve told myself, the enemy has told me, and I believed. Often times, it’s extremely hard to renew a mind that has been stuck in deception for so long. I was constantly working on changing the perception I had about myself and about my life. Some days were better than others but I knew that I had to be consistent if I wanted to be new, whole within my mind, whole within my heart, and whole within my spirit.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about A Part Of Christ – what should we know?
A Part Of Christ is God’s platform that allows me to empower, inspire, motivate and cultivate a space where young women and teenage girls (ages 13+) can find their identities in Christ, the One who woven them into who they are. A Part Of Christ was birthed to not only help them find themselves but to show and teach them how to live the life that God has called them to live. I’m most proud of being able to do what I love by spreading the word of God the best and most honest way I know how — through writing. I am so grateful that I have a chance to share my testimony and experiences, to share the hope and the faithfulness that God has shown and will always show me. Our name, A Part Of Christ says it all! We were called to be set apart from the world. Here, you’ll find the true authenticity of God’s love permeating to other teens from a teen. We help teens find themselves and I believe that is the most precious thing in life, to know who and who’s you are and to understand why you were put on this earth; to have clarity about the God who made you. I believe it’s beautiful and empowering.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The quality and characteristics that I feel is most important to my success would be accountability, consistency and integrity. Without any of these three, there will be no action to any vision that God gives me to execute. Accountability keeps me in line with finishing or starting something that I told myself I would. Consistency pushes me to continue the work, even when it gets hard, even when it’s tiring or moving slower than I had expected. Just as Scripture tells me in Galatians 6:9, I should not grow weary in doing good because at the proper time, I will reap my harvest if I don’t give up. Integrity helps me align my words with my actions. These three works together for the success of anything that I create and I believe that they apply to every aspect of our lives.
