Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Cedrina Ruffin.
Dr. Ruffin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Since the start of my Social Work career, I have always wanted to be able to provide a service to clients that yielded outcomes that were impactful in positive and motivating ways. I have had the opportunity throughout my career to work in various areas of Social Work practice. These areas include Medical/Public Health, Child Welfare, Hospice, and School Social work, but my most rewarding area of practice thus far has been Mental/Behavioral Health. I have always had a passion to help others solve their problems, and help them better understand the root of the problems they are presented with. I believe that your mental health is a very important aspect to any individual ability to live a healthy life. I must admit there has been a lot that I have had to go through myself, personally to get where I am today. I had to ride through my own course of depression to fully understand what depression really looks and feels like, to better gain a sense of how one must defeat it.
I have poured so much time, effort, and dedication in improving the wellbeing of my own inner peace. In the process I have been fortunate enough to learned a plethora of new skills, techniques, and theories that have been proven to be very effective in helping some of the most broken individuals find peace within themselves. I contribute a large amount of my knowledge to being able to not only witness life experiences of others, but also to my own personal experiences. I have a special saying that I often recite to my clients and it is “Life is all about Experiences and Exposures”. I have a profound belief in this and am able to tap into my bank of observational and personal experiences to help a lot of my clients. I love the feel of being able to provide therapeutic advice, leadership, and direction to help others grow, succeed, and progress through the various challenges that they often face.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I must admit this journey to find my niche and become satisfied and happy with my profession of choice has been rough. So many roadblocks, fears, uncertainties and challenges have gotten in my way, but just as one door would close, I would find another that was open and ready to welcome me with open arms. Becoming a professional business owner was never my initial plan for my career path. I have always been mentored and educated by others who have always worked for well reputable companies or agencies throughout my career. Making the choice to branch out on my own, be my own Boss, and pave the way for upcoming therapist in my field has been an honor and a major accomplishment of mines. I am one of the only business owners I know in my family and would like to set the bar as high as I can to do what I do best and make my family proud. Everything I have done in my educational and professional career has been done with hopes that I can set a great example for my family and be an exceptional example to what is possible with hard work and dedication.
I would also say to my friends and family that ” I just wanna be Great”, and I truly mean this from the bottom of my heart. I need to make sure that I am doing all things to the best of ability. I want to make I am taking advantage of each and every life opportunity that comes my way that can positively affect me mentally, spiritually, physically, emotionally, and professionally.
Please tell us about your practice.
CMR Clinical Counseling and Consulting Service is a small boutique style therapy and professional practice that provides clinical and supportive counseling to Individuals, ages 13 to 65, Couples, Families, and Groups in need. I’m professionally licensed in the state of Texas as a PhD level Clinical Social Worker, I provide psychotherapy for people dealing with life changing issues such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, relationship, self-esteem, and family issues. I also work with people who want to know themselves better by gaining happiness in their lives and working on their personal growth.
Through individual, group, family and couples counseling, I have been able to therapeutically touch the lives of many individuals dealing with depression, grief, anxiety, behavioral, family and relationship issues, self-esteem, communication and personal and professional growth. Utilizing evidence-based techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness, it is my goal to help clients understand their feelings, emotions, and symptoms, while focusing on solving their problems as well as initiating a change in their behaviors, that serve as contributing factors to their negative symptoms.
My practice is open seven days a week, to not only allow me the flexibility of engaging in self-care and personal responsibilities, but to allow my clients the capabilities of making therapy a necessity in their personal growth. What’s sets my practice apart from others is my desire to allow my clients to control their own dedication and commitment to therapy. My clients are allowed to book their own appointments via my client portal, allowing them to book an appointment at a time that is most convenient for them. Clients are also offered a range of therapy options to choose from such as in office, teletherapy, or walk and talk therapy. My office setting encompasses a very relaxing, therapeutic, and confidential setting that contributes to my client’s ability to feel more comfortable and safer to release their thoughts, emotions, and feelings in ways that will provide them with a sense of peace by the end of their session.
I genuinely have always had a passion for helping others. I love to see others smile in happiness, living a life that was destined for them, and overcoming obstacles. Let me help you FIND YOUR PEACE!!!!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
In my opinion, success is defined by the achievement of personal and professional milestones. I believe that the definition of success differs for many individuals and can be adjusted, molded, and crafted to fit an individual’s expectations of their life. I have chosen to define my own success by the achievements I have accomplished spiritually, personally, and professionally. I think success can be hard to everyone in its own way, and the level of resiliency is measure by an individual’s personal perception. Our inner strength is tested when we attempt to succeed at anything, and the midst of success, we often discover strengths we never knew we had. That is why I believe that anything is possible, and that person’s level of success can be different and should not be compared.
