Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Kirk III.
Thomas, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Everything started when I was living in North Carolina. I was working the holiday season at Target, in 2015, and noticed cameras were on sale. I decided to buy my first camera, the Canon T5 Rebel. Once I obtained my gear, I decided to spend 2016 traveling around the United States and, eventually, Europe. During my travels, I learned a vast amount of different techniques, which help further my skills as a photographer. Since then, my love and passion for photography have continued to grow, and I am grateful for the time I spent in North Carolina. In 2019, I relocated back to Houston. I realized I needed to create a space that would allow me to shoot uninterrupted continuously. Fortunately, a close friend of mine knew of an area where I could do just that, and the studio was created little by little. Soon enough, I was approached by a colleague to photograph a Back to School supply drive that her organization, The BAES HTX, were hosting. Real Time Imagery was created with the set up of the studio and the success of the school supply drive, which has been a steady source of creativity and income.
Has it been a smooth road?
The creation of Real Time Imagery was not always easy. When I began investing time in photography, I was excited and eager to create beautiful works of art. I soon came to realize that creating those beautiful works of art would take time and patience. I began to learn the best way I knew how, through experience. Soon enough, I began to understand the proper use of lighting, shutter speed, etc. While I was living in North Carolina, I battled with depression and anxiety, which distracted me for months. These distractions impacted my work, and it soon begun to become dull and uninspired. Through time, therapy, and effort, I was able to use photography as a healthy outlet, and I learned to manage my life better. When I relocated back to Houston, I was able to set up a small studio space. Having access to the studio has allowed me to create and experiment, which has further developed my skills.
Please tell us about the company.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Over the next 5-10 years, I imagine more and more devices will be able to take high-quality pictures, like with the iPhone and other smartphones. However, I believe that people will still desire higher quality photos of themselves, photos that only cameras with larger sensors can achieve. I have learned that those top quality photos are not just pictures on paper for people; it is a way for them to remember and rejoice in the fun times of yesterday. The devices used to capture these moments will undoubtedly become better and more sophisticated with time. Drones will become smaller, more intuitive, and combined with better cameras, will be able to capture moments like never before. I am excited about what the future of photography and the creation of digital content will bring.
