Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheri Houstons.
Cheri, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been an entertainer Since I was in diapers lol according to my mom!! She couldn’t even shop with me in the basket because I would hear the music start dancing and rocking the basket at the age of two!!! I never watched cartoons as a kid only listen to music and made up my own dances/songs to perform for my teddy bears!! I was in my first talent show at Grissom Elementary in Houston Texas in second grade!!!! We won second place I taught the group the routine!!!! Also, I praised danced in church for over five yrs. I’m just a natural dancer!!! I love music it doesn’t matter country/gospel/rap etc…..
I started modeling nine years ago!!! I am now a 13 time published!!! I have been featured in Dallas magazines/New York/Miami/Chicago/Houston/Atl/ Jersey/Dallas/Philadelphia/Denver/Ohio/California/Detroit just to name a few!!! I got started in modeling cause a photographer friend kept encouraging me to shoot it took a year before I was comfortable enough to shoot!!!! Once I did, I just stuck with it and kept going!!!! Modeling lead me back to writing music. I literally woke up one morning and said I’m gone make me a rap song!!! A month later I had my first song finished and radio interviews set up!!! Now it will be five yrs. in October that I been doing music! I have several songs that went viral been on three tours performed all over my music being played world wide I got to work with some great people!!! I have music with DJ kayslay/South Park Shawty/beatking/big Pokey/juicy j/project pat/mims and several more!!! I am happy with everything I have accomplished but I’m just getting started!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Omg no not at all none of this has been easy at all!!!! You have to have a strong mind and be determined or u won’t make it!!! You cannot be lazy at all u have to grind grind!!! Especially if u don’t know what ur doing it’s 20 times harder for a woman. These men try to play with u in the industry!! I have had people steal music from me and try to profit off it!!! I have had family and friends turn they back on me because that didn’t approve of my music and modeling!!!! I have had janky promoters try to short me on money etc.!! To many stories to tell I don’t think I have enough paper lol! I never switched up or quit even though many days I wanted to I have never took a break from the scene since I been on it!!! When stuff get hard, I just pray head up chest out and put one foot Infront of the other just keep going.
Cheri houstons the goddess – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a model rapper radio personality What’s sets me apart is I’m not just a model or artist!!! I do it all I’m an all around entertainer I’m gone put on a show!!! I don’t model like the other models because I represent for my chocolate sisters!!! My music is different cause nobody sounds like me!!! I don’t try to sound like no one I stay in my lane talk a lil shxt to a fire beat!!! You gone jam to my music and laugh at the same time!!! What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Working with people I grew up listen too DJ Kay slay/big Pokey/juicy j/project pat also when I won the award in Houston Texas for female stay on the grind 2019 at the hustle hard awards!!!
