Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay Rainey.
Kay, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I came into trucking on my own by way of my parents who had already laid the foundation of the trucking industry as a whole. While on my job at the time I purchased my first trailer and within months later purchased my first truck. It all started with my father telling me about brokering loads and starting a brokering company. During this time, I still worked my 8 to 5 studied and learned the trucking industry until one day, my mother called and stated it was time for me to go into it full time. I then stepped out on faith and made trucking my full-time job. Once I booked my first load and completed the load, I was hooked and in love. I have currently been in trucking solely on my own for over ten years and counting.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There has been many obstacles and challenges along the way, many of them being what’s considered as normal within running a trucking company. Trucking is a different type of business as it has high standards for safety and maintenance. With that being said, Paperwork, Maintenance, Drivers and other minor essential tasks is the main oil that keeps the trucking machine going. When I look back over all of these years, to be honest, the only way to overcome any and everything that comes about is by having a solid team. I look at it as you never know what will happen but it’s worth the chance you take.
Please tell us about Quickays Transport.
Quickays Transport LLC specializes in the hauling of General Freight everyday. We haul daily up to 200 miles away any direction on a per freight basis. We are known for getting freight done in a timely manner and going above and beyond for any and all of our clients. I am most proud of the company as a whole as we’ve grown together and without the main drivers on my team, there is some things we could not have done. I also take much pride in being self-made and maintaining so much on my own. I give out advice a lot but my main saying is my FAITH is what has carried me thus far, and I take it one day at a time and let God handle the rest. What sets me apart from others is that I know where I’m going and I know how to get there and I also know that my hard work and determination will be what will get me where I want to be in the future years.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory, I must say, has to be the family gatherings. Family is a huge part for me, and they have made me who I am today. I must also say one of my favorite childhood memories was when my father took me out on the road with him to do a load. I can honestly say that’s when I figured out what 18 wheelers were and that’s where my love for them began. I have many other favorite memories, but those I hold dear to me.
