Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Sheppard.
Justin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My name is Justin Sheppard and I am the CEO of TalentedOnes Media. I’m from the Northside of Houston raised in Humble. My basis for TalentedOnes probably came from my creative arts background, which was fine-tuned by my Grandmother Billye Davis. I am a writer, poet, drummer, photographer, videographer, director, etc, just all around I love creating.
The idea of TalentedOnes started back when I was a freshman at Sam Houston State University in early 2016. I had just stopped playing football and was given a random idea of starting a website for poets because of my previous history of writing and performing poetry around the Houston area in high school. I tried the website at first but it flopped but while it flopped, it made me have the idea to expand the range of talent I would talk too. In the summer of 2017, I put TalentedOnes into action in a different way I used my childhood friend Cassidy Dixon and asked would she help me record some interviews of some artist back at Sam Houston. She said yes and we took off to Huntsville recorded my first few videos and that’s where the YouTube page started. Ever since then, I have been trying to gain an audience and create a platform that will be global one day.
Has it been a smooth road?
The struggles I had at first was balancing being in College and trying to put out consistent content and growing an audience at first, now that I have graduated it’s still the same but just trying to grow my audience and continue giving out consistent content which is better now. I know that success does not come overnight, so I’m in this grind for the long run because I know it will pay off at the end of day. It’s not in my timing. It’s in God’s timing.
TalentedOnes – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m using my platform to highlight known and unknown talent all over the globe, that is the end goal but right now, we’re more regional. We are shining a light on creative individuals’ stories through great content and creation. As of 2020, We have the YouTube Page (TalentedOnes), where you can find TalentedOnes Interviews, Radio Show excerpts and TOfreestyles. An online radio Show on 92Kelz App and website from 2-4 PM CT every Saturday, and Talented1nes.com. As a black-owned media company, we aim to highlight the culture in the light it needs from the most loved to most underrated.
We specialize in creative interviews, and Radio/Podcast show discussions. What sets my media outlet apart from others is the creative, genuine mix of all our content we put out. It’s informational, fun and aesthetically pleasing to watch. The thing that makes me so proud of TalentedOnes is the love I get from supporters and the constant progression of each piece of content delivered to the public. Each upload, radio show, or website post puts a smile on my face.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
For myself, Houston is the perfect spot to base my business in because it’s a melting spot for creatives and entrepreneurs. My goal for my company is to be global but, at the same time, keep my home base in the city I grew up in.
