Today we’d like to introduce you to Pierre Breaux.
Pierre, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It’s funny. Photography was never my first artistic medium. Music and writing were and have always been my main ways of expressing myself. However, the blogging site Tumblr really got me involved with photography. It’s always been an interest of mine and I got introduced to artists like Corwin Prescott and Baarik’s Gallery via Tumblr and that combined with my own collaborations as a writer for other people’s photos, I decided to venture into my own photographic expression. And it just grew from there. I didn’t know people still used Instagram until I had already owned a camera for months lol.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life has never been a smooth road for me as an artist and a black man living in the US, to be frank. Whether it’s people judging or criticizing me for the topics I write about, how I choose to shoot or express my ideas. WHO I shoot with, there’s always a problem with something I’m doing as an artist. And I love it. I welcome it. It took some time but honestly, I do it for myself. If people don’t like it, who cares, because I’m sure as hell don’t. I create for my own peace of mind.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m currently a freelance photographer who specializes in portraits, boudoir, or conceptual art. That’s typically what people see on my Instagram page. I also shoot family portraits, weddings, lifestyle photos and have a studio available for a variety of ventures.
I’d say I’m most proud of the development of my style. I’m not sure how to even describe but I think that’s the point. What sets me apart is that I’m always looking to do and/or be different. I want people to see my art and know that it is distinct.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far is probably that I’ve planned and produced projects that have not only been supported by some of my followers but in that, they are continuously evolving. I’m a big picture kind of guy, so to finish projects is very meaningful for me.
