Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmy Castle.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jimmy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As for my music inspiration – it started when I was very young. My brother would let me tag along with him as we road around my neighborhood, down Chimney Rock. He would be blasting Snoop Dog, Eazy E, Tupac, UGK, Master P. You know the OG shit. Since then, I have always had a love for music. It wasn’t until later on that my love for other genres expanded to the likes of Metal, Reggeaton, Rock, Latin, EDM and much more. I feel heavy into Rock and Metal shortly after I purchased the video game Rock Band. It was played almost everyday with my neighbors (aka brothers from another mother) and even prompted me to pick up the drums in real life. I stuck with the drums for over three years straight the hit a wall once I got a full-time job. About two or three years later, I was inspired again. I had friends over and we had EDC playing on the TV. Seeing crowds of thousands react to a single DJ/Artist, was unreal. The next day I was online looking at Guitar Center seeking a DJ Controller and shortly after a midi Keyboard. I wanted to create my own music.
Now, I’ve been at it for over four years. It’s been a lot of locking myself in a room, creating, researching, and practicing to being out and networking, building relationships and working different events. As many artists know, music is beautiful but can cause you to sacrifice a lot in life. With that sacrifice, I still find inspiration and motivation in myself. #F*CKBEINGBORING is my mantra and brand. It’s a saying that I came up with after pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I wanted to start putting it out there to help others do the same and believe in themselves despite doubts and what others may thing of them. I’ve had people reach out to me and tell me what #F*CKBEINGBORING means to them and how it’s helped them overcome things big and small. Being surrounded by music, you pick up a few things and I’ve now picked up the piano, currently learning how to engineer music and finding myself gravitating towards rapping. Music is limitless in my eyes. Before I wanted to create my own music. Now I want to create VIBES. I would like to create an energy that is everlasting.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. You sacrifice a lot of time with friends and family and can find yourself by yourself. To get out of those moments, I stop and tell myself it’s time for a breather. No one can stay underwater forever. You gotta come to the surface at times.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a creator and student of music. I’m a DJ, producer, pianist, drummer, rapper, and inspiring music engineer. I’m most proud of and known for my hustle. I’ve landed opportunities by building connections and relationships as I’m a strong believer that money can take you so far, but a connection can take you further. What sets me apart from others is that I don’t allow myself to drown in negative opinions, I choose to use it and turn it into positive energy. I have someone tell me that recording my interactions while showcasing my beats to people on the streets was not a good thing. I guess lame? But, without that, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t think I would do anything differently.
