Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Caskey.
Dominique, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My husband and I are originally from Lafayette, LA and moved to Houston almost six years ago for a job opportunity for him. My experience after college was in sales/marketing and event planning/design. While I loved what I did, I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs and always knew I wanted to start something of my own.
In the years leading up to starting NEAT Houston, my husband and I built two homes, and I fell in love with taking them from a house to our home by making them work for our day-to-day in a beautiful way. I’ve also always been the type-A organized one who plans for every detail and would enjoy organizing a space in my home on an off day or helping friends and family with their own. Organizing was so ingrained in me that I never thought of it as something that could truly help others and make my business dreams a reality. When I found NEAT through a friend, it was as if it came together and seemed so clear all at once.
The Houston market had yet to be launched, so I reached out to learn more. Fast forward a few months and plenty of emails, interviews and business plans later, I was offered the NEAT Houston market and was thrilled to bring the NEAT life to Houstonians!
In a full-circle way, I’ve brought what I loved about my past career when it comes to planning, details, design and making clients’ wishes reality into my love for creating functionally beautiful homes and spaces. The part that sets my heart on fire is helping them to curate a home they love to be in that also caters to creating more time and margin for what matters most.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been such a fun and wild ride complete with both fulfilled and surpassed expectations, as well as plenty of experiences that were learning lessons and ultimately made us better as a business. Personally, I’d say the most substantial or least expected struggles came from the personal growth you experience in becoming a business owner and how you must learn to pivot from your known rhythms, habits and routines in order to succeed.
Few things will push and challenge you like having your own business, but it’s been invaluable to see the reward and growth that comes when you humble yourself, dig in and do the hard work.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I absolutely believe Houston is a great place for businesses like mine and so many others! It’s a city that supports small businesses and also has the capacity and population to support a myriad of industries and specialties.
The trick is knowing your client, where to find them and how to best serve them. Don’t get stuck in the comparison trap, but instead focus on what sets your business apart and serving your client well through that. I know we hear this on repeat regarding business, but I’ve personally discovered just how true and invaluable that advice is!
