Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Ojo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Stephen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Music has always been part of my life from when I was a child till now. I have always wanted to be a musical artist growing up but my talent in dance took off way faster than I expected and I gained most of my fans through my accomplishments in dancing. This led to me pushing my music career aside for a while because, at a point, I got insecure about writing songs and putting out music. I was afraid of what people will say or what they will think of me. Hence the reason why I never put out any music till the winter of 2019 when I dropped my first hit single called “Awelewa”. Before I recorded and dropped awelewa, I had to do some soul searching and ask myself “who I’m i living my life for and why I’m I so scared to do what I love”. Once I realized that I only have one life to live and I have to live my life to the fullest, no matter what anyone says or think, it was a wrap. I gained my self-confidence back and got back in my groove.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been a thrill. A ride full of ups and downs but I love it. Most of my fans knowing me for dance so it’s been difficult trying to get them to see that I also do music. That has honestly been the most difficult part of my journey as an artist. When I post anything relating related to my music, it is as if they don’t even see it but if it’s a dance video, everyone is happy again. I keep on pushing through because I refuse to get boxed in for anyone. One of the thought processes that helps me and keeps me going is that I tell myself that “I was once a dancer who had no fans or followers but now, I have some sort of clout. I have been on this journey before, I can do it again with my music.”
Papi Ojo – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m still in the process of building my team and getting everything in order but as of now, I am a one-man team. I’m proud of the amount of success I was able to accomplish in my first year as an artist and I look forward to the upcoming years. I would say the thing that sets me aside from everyone else is my ability to learn and grow at an expedited rate and I’m also a good dancer.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the weather.
