Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Bates.
Kelly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2014, my family and I celebrated my parent’s 30th wedding anniversary. My mother and I spent a lot of time planning this special event. Following the celebration, we decided to start Grand Events Party Planners, where we provided linen and decor rentals with affordable pricing. We eventually expanded our services to include planning and coordinating weddings and events. In early 2020, I branched out and started Yes, I Do, focusing more on the planning & coordination aspect of the business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting a brand-new business during COVID has definitely been challenging! With all of the uncertainty concerning the health and wealth of people, wedding planning was definitely on pause. I thank God the industry is slowly starting to resume normal business practices.
Yes, I Do! Weddings & Events – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in planning & coordinating weddings and events. My focus is allowing the couple and their parents to sit back and enjoy the day while I take care of the rest. Often times, couples don’t realize how much goes into executing such an important day. I love to tell my brides “You’ve spent money on this day so enjoy it! I’ll take care of it!”. What separates me from others in the industry is I relate to brides on various levels. Besides being a bride, my clients are women. They are mothers, daughters, sisters, and juggle a lot of tasks outside of planning a wedding. I like to say I become somewhat of a therapist to some as their wedding day gets closer. I have lots of secrets from past clients that will go to the grave with me!! We bond during the planning process and become friends. When you book with me you get a planning & coordinator, plus a lifelong friend #winning.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the near future, I’m planning to partner with various venues to provide services to their clients. I’m in talks with a few currently. The limits are endless!
