Huy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started when I was sitting in an office in downtown Houston putting together a portfolio of financial investments for my manager to present to our clients. Two weeks later, while riding on the bus to work, as I usually do, the answer came in the form of a vision of a sort. Everything and everyone I saw along the bus ride became a metaphor for my life…. past, present, and future. I literally saw an abstract movie of my whole life in front of me. For example, the bus made a turn to go north and we passed a college campus to the left and a hospital to the right. Right then, I knew this was the answer. I would go back to school and study medicine. Two weeks later, I quit my job to follow that compelling and reassuring vision. That was nearly twenty years ago. I followed my vision and today I am living my dream, literally.
Part of the vision that day was seeing the bus drive through roads that were being demolish to build better roads and newer means of transportation. This was a metaphor for a new and better way of living and I was going to be a contributing factor in it. A water fountain further ahead signals a refreshing and rejuvenating aspect to living life and healing.
It took five years to complete the master’s program at the American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. In 2007, The RiverSpring Healing Center opened in Houston to be the fountain for peace, healing, and rejuvenation of life’s energy in a natural, drug-free application of timeless wisdom of acupuncture, herbs, food therapy, meditation, and taichi.
Has it been a smooth road?
In listening to the vision, there was never any doubt, fear or second guessing. If I had thought twice about the initial decision to quit a nice paying job, I would not have done it. As time passed, the metaphors would become clearer as life comes closer to that part in the ‘movie.’ No matter what situations were presented, I always could connect to the vision and follow the inner guidance. It’s always a good day when I can help someone understand his/her experience better or to feel better physically, mentally, and emotionally.
River Spring Healing Center – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Ancient wisdom states that Life force energies, Qi/Prana, courses through the ‘body‘ in a network of channels called meridians. When these channels are in disharmony, pain, illnesses or diseases occur. River Spring Healing Center is a vision to allow the natural energies and processes of life to be experienced with greater awareness and harmony. To accomplish this, the physical body, the mental and emotion bodies, and the energy body must be conditioned, rejuvenated and aligned through acupuncture, taichi, breathing and meditation practices.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Being in harmony in mind and body to have peace, joy and good health is the trend. Everyone wants to feel and live this way with each other and the environment. Ancient wisdoms are returning to serve this need. Acupuncture as a healing modality is a perfect way to reset and restore the energy flow of your bodies. Taichi is a self-practice that restore, cultivate, and maintains a healthy flow of life force energy for daily living. And meditation or contemplation is another self-practice to connect to a higher source for support, direction, and guidance.
