Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Brazell Obvintseva.
Brandy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2008, after a decade in Oil and Gas Marketing Communications, I decided to start an online social network for people in the global energy industry. The market was a challenge, so instead of fundraising our startup, we bootstrapped it with communications consulting services. After several years, we realized that this was the business that we were most excited about every day, but the startup space and the focus on people and culture that was part of our social platform journey put us in a unique position. We evolved as we blended our expertise in B2B Brand, Marketing, Social Media, and Culture to offer a very integrated experience for our clients-Gallant Culture is the result of all of these things.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has NOT been a smooth road, and entrepreneurship isn’t easy at all because you have to wear so many hats. But it worth it!
I remember one evening I was so exhausted, trying to build a highly sophisticated website from scratch-I was such a newbie that I didn’t know white label tools were even an option. I put the coffee pot on and continued my work. Suddenly, I smelled coffee and looked, and I forgot to put the carafe under the coffee spout. The sad thing is that I did it a second time. I was so exhausted and in the zone that I couldn’t even make a desperately needed cup of coffee! Many entrepreneurs have a challenge with over-inspiration, and I am guilty of this. Everything in my mind’s eye is possible, can be built, created, and brought to life! This mindset means that I will shift my focus on a myriad of shiny objects all day long. If you are the same type, partner with someone excellent at executing to the point of testing the viability of a concept or nothing will get off the ground.
Understand your strengths and weaknesses and get very good at finding people that compliment them with their own. And read E-Myth by Michael Gerber. He talks about how to put the processes in place to scale your business. It is crucial.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Gallant Culture story. Tell us more about the business.
There are a few things that set us apart at Gallant Culture:
1. Gallant has a very interesting take on the intersection of culture and brand. We like to say that culture is the soul of every great organization and the indispensable engine of its brand. A culture-rich brand is a strong basis for optimizing how your products and services go to market, ensuring a committed and inspired workforce, heightened training experiences, and aligning how you speak and look so that you can deliver enchanting customer experiences. We are able to help companies really leverage their brands and amplify their cultures to ensure that everyone interfacing with the organization is better because of their interaction. This is a big offering, so we get very integrated with our client companies and stick around for a while.
2. I am a bit biased, but you cannot find a more committed, kinder, and more brilliant set of team members than the group at Gallant Culture. We focus on talents, so our team is allowed to stretch and step into all sorts of roles that may seem unusual considering traditional paths. This means that our clients get very unique perspectives when they need problem-solving and support.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
Women are natural, nurturing leaders and we are also very versatile. My children have taught me the value of true, undivided attention as a gift to bestow upon people and I see this lesson as one that I received as a mother from my daughter. Women are good listeners and resourceful problem solvers. And we celebrate collectively! I am so grateful for the women on my team that remind me to celebrate my wins.
