Meet King Baby

Today we’d like to introduce you to King Baby.

King Baby Familia HipHop is Reggae Crossover band consisting of six music from all different walks of life. Starting in 2017, King Baby Familia has completely crossed genres opening for some amazing headliners such as… Everlast, 50 Cent, Fat Joe, The Skattelites, Los Cafres, Bumpin Uglies, Immortal Technique, Bun B of UGK, the list goes on and on. It’s a very rare occurrence that such an act can cross genres such as King Baby Familia has done & Frontman Diego AbuPain prides himself on it.

Also on another huge note… King Baby’s front man Diego Abu-Pain was recently recognized as the last musician to ever work with Houston legend, the late great Bushwick Bill of the infamous Geto Boys & Rap-A-Lot Records. The track, “What You want me 2 Say” is completely underground and is a hidden gem for true HipHop fans and those who were true fans of the Legend Bushwick Bill. The heartfelt lyrics and live instrumentation truly give a glimpse into Bushwick’s feelings and emotions near his passing. “He will always be severely missed.” says frontman Diego as he gets still gets somewhat emotional recalling those last moments. Another Houston legend featured on soon to be King Baby classic is “The Wizard” K-Rino. This incredible HipHop joint has a smooth gangsta beat, gutter and grimy lyrics, and has been dubbed HipHop in its purest form. What makes King Baby special is the amazing musical talent provided by the band along with its simplicity and raw emotion. With soon to be released singles and album, “Mad Love in a Mad World” King Baby Familia has plenty of new music coming for its listeners and fans. Produced by Latin Grammy winner Carlos Yael Santos, King Baby is on a path that is sure to make a lot of noise on an international level. Featured in the Houston Chronicle in the beginning of 2020 as top 20 bands to look out for, King Baby is soon to be hitting the road as part of a ten city national tour as direct support for international powerhouses Hed Pe. With an album about to drop and more singles and features lined up, King Baby Familia is soon to be recognized as one of Houston’s most diverse and entertaining musical acts known in Texas.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth road by any sense of the word. We live in Houston, TX. and we’ve definitely had some issues along the way. King Baby Familia has been known for speaking out on very touchy subjects such as police brutality, drug addiction, and yes politics. King Baby has even been blacklisted from some venues in Houston and the Galveston area due to never being afraid to speak their mind Although everyone knows King Baby Familia as very peaceful and respectful, it hasn’t stopped a small handful of promoters and venues from stating… “We don’t wanna hear about such issues in music, and our people just want to dance and have a good time. Growing up listening to such artists as Bob Marley, Tupac Shakur, and countless others who became a symbol for something bigger than the music, frontman Diego says, “The reason we started King Baby Familia is because we had something to say.” He also states that though we’ve lost some gigs because of our views, it hasn’t ever stopped them from staying true to their message and has actually gained them a very loyal and true fan base. Diego says he sees it as their loss and though many bands prefer to keep those views on the sideline due to the loss of fans, King Baby Familia has never been a band to change up their music due to fan service. “That’s why people love King Baby” even those who don’t agree with us respect us for our music and for always respectfully speaking our views without fear of losing fan base. “You either love us to death, or you’d hate us with a passion.” Says Diego AbuPain. “Regardless, I am King Baby”

King Baby Familia – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
King Baby Familia has crossed over from being only a Reggae fusion band, to also a solid HipHop act and can cross genres where most bands can’t. Diego AbuPain and DjCyde have proven to be one of Houston’s elite when mentioning HipHop in the state. The acts that they have opened for have been A cross of Reggae, HipHop, Rock, and evening some Spanish acts. This is truly a band that is entertaining and can be put on any bill and bring something very special to the crowd. When you first see the band, you don’t know what to think. By the time the show is over you leave feeling something very personal, special, and the water gets deep. You also leave with a different perspective. For as long as they are on stage, they have a special way of letting you walk in someone else’s shoes and see things in a different light. “I thought I was gonna see something violent, yet I left with a peaceful heart and feeling like I know my fellow neighbors.” says a fan from one of their latest shows. “We eventually get to Peace love and happiness, but not before walking thru the darkness together.” says King Baby. “Once all said and done, we leave realizing that like it or not we are all connected and we are all In this together.”

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We’ve definitely not had much luck. Especially after Covid 19 and the state in which its left our music scene. What we do have is a great group of musicians who have stuck together thru thick and thin. We’ve all been in other bands and have been doing this for quite some time. Yet together we found a fellowship, a Family, and place where there are no egos and everyone believes that we make each other better. We all understand that this is a team and everyone is needed and appreciated. Everyone has a job and there are no weak links. We push each other and catch each other when and before we fall as one unit. We understand that if one man falls… we all fall. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link and we always push each other in a positive direction always. We’ve also had some great help from others who also believe in what we are proud to call Familia. A Huge thanks to R&R Studios, Cloudbreak Creative, The Pharmacy Studios, SpinLynn entertainment Dbs Productions and Carlos Yael Santos. We’ve definitely had much help and luck to have such good people around us no doubt. Familia is the only word we can use to describe it. Mad mad love you know.
