Today we’d like to introduce you to Prince Carter.
Prince, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My goal in life is very simple… do what God has brought me here to do and that is to build and create something that will live longer than myself using my talent and gifts. Way back when I was a little young thing in Maryland, I just remembered the undeniable work ethic that my parents and grandparents flexed. If you want something in life you MUST work hard to obtain it.
So, during my earlier years in life I knew early on that I would have a future in the entertainment business but I must admit I was so afraid because of how I was raised due to my religious beliefs at the time. I struggled and I struggled with trying to find my voice in this world because I knew that it was totally against my family wishes. Of course, I didn’t want to disappoint them but I also wanted to be happy in life. I had to make a really tough decision, to either become complacent in life or follow my heart; I decided to go with the latter part.
Despite the many setbacks and hardships faced, I was so determined that nothing would ever stop me from accomplishing my dreams of becoming one of the world’s greatest entertainers. From interviewing some of today’s hottest celebs, being tapped for one of the biggest reality shows on VH1, to creating a platform that encourages others to live their best life. All still amazes the little boy in me from Maryland.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest challenge of my life was fully accepting my blackness and truly loving every inch of my melanin. I had no idea what a blessing it is to be a black man. While some may see the color of my skin as a disease or the inability of creating greatness because of a system that was designed to view me as the lesser counterpart. To me being BLACK represents strength, beauty, love & power.
So being seen as the underdog my true inner strength supersedes any doubter or hate. I guess a part of me absolutely love proving my haters wrong anyway.
One of my favorite quotes by the first Black & former 1st lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, “When they go low, we must go high.” This is something that is completely embedded in my world and the key to my successes. More importantly having a wonderful tribe of people who I’m surrounded by and my devotion to God is where I pull strength to continue on my journey.
Now, I have not experienced any type of racism within the entertainment business but I have had my share of real-life struggles including homelessness, physical abuse from someone whom I loved very dearly all the while battling with mental illness. Well I was taught that it’s not about what happens to you it’s about how you respond to it and what you choose to do with it afterwards. So, I have decided to turn this pain into POWER and create a platform that is geared towards educating, equipping and empowering Blacks and Minorities in seeing their self-worth and help building stronger and safer communities.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The setbacks and hardships that I faced in life were truly a blessing in disguise. I had no idea that my struggles would be the answer to so many other people’s prayers. Deciding to create a platform for a series of events, specifically for the encouragement of others to live their best life was extremely scary. But it was my faith and passion to help others that fueled my decision.
My empowerment events are geared towards creating effective positive change in our communities by joining forces with celebrities and other influencers to help educate, equip and empower Blacks and Minorities.
My advice to others is don’t wait for someone to invite you to their table and eat, you get out there and build your own table and cook a bomb meal. I hope that someone out there will be inspired by my story and know that if I can do it so can they. There isn’t any such thing of LUCK it’s simple just put in the work and God hands will begin to move.
What were you like growing up?
Words from Prince Carter’s Parents:
Prince’s Mother: As the mother of three children; Prince Carter, who is known to the world but to me he will forever be my Deyon; he was always the child that was very independent. Prince always thought outside of the box when it comes to entertainment and fashion. He has an entrepreneur spirit that is driven by his passion to succeed. His determination is what gives him the greatest yet possible chance to achieve his goals in life. Prince recognizes that he will achieve his target and no matter how difficult the path is Prince’s focus is just that of his own. The difference between who he is and who he wants to be, IS WHAT HE WILL DO! And for these reasons, I am truly honored and proud of my son.
Prince’s Father: Prince is my son; A man stands now where my baby used to be and the sight of him all grown up moves me. My son has become a wiser and strong man than I ever dreamed he could be. I know by looking at him that God has blessed me in ways that years ago I never would have believed. He is an adult to the world and that is how it should be. But in my heart and soul he will always be my baby.
