Meet Vinh Ngo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vinh Ngo.

Vinh, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
First of all, I want to thank Voyage Houston for reaching out. My name is Vinh px Ngo and I am Vietnamese American. I was born in DaLat, Vietnam and immigrated to the USA with my family in 2003. During my high school days, I found my talent and admiration for fine art. I won many contests and decided to pursue art as a career when I studied at the University of Houston – Main Campus. In 2011, I attended a leadership camp and it taught me to set goals and believe in myself. It changes the way I think about how I should live life. I devoted my next few years in college trying to perfect my art craft and learn as much as possible. I experimented with drawing, painting, ceramic, sculpture, photography, and graphic design. It seems like there was no end to what I want to learn and know.

College was fun and all, but it came to a stop in 2015 as I graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts and a minor in education. I became an art teacher soon after and within just five years, I got to experienced and worked with three different schools districts and schools. I am currently an art teacher at Alief Elsik High School teaching advance drawing courses. Being a teacher might be too much for some people, but to me, I always find myself surrounded by other projects and hobbies. I enjoy walking around downtown doing photography with friends or in my studio design my next project. All of that is just to satisfy my deep desire to create and explore.

Has it been a smooth road?
My journey wasn’t all smooth. When I came to America, language barrier was a challenge to overcome. It took me years to be able to be confident and talk to native speakers. It also creates this lack of self-esteem when I was in high school. I started to gain more confident about myself as I entered college. At 26 years old, I decided to get married, but we parted ways three years after which was a devastated time for me. I was lost for months and couldn’t find the purpose of life. However, I was so lucky to have many friends and family members who lifted me up and bring me hope. I came back stronger and more determine to recreate myself. I bought a home and started my photography website at www.vinhpxngo.com. I stay humble and appreciate life more than ever. Vietnamese people have a saying “Sau cơn mưa, trời lại sáng.” which translate to “after the rain, the sky will brighten.” Everyone faces challenges in life. I just hope people comes out of it stronger and better.

Vinh PX Ngo – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I don’t have a company, but my friends and relatives known me for my photography and art related projects. As of now, I specialize in portrait photography and many other types of photography. You can view my work at www.vinhpxngo.com. I view my photography as an outlet to capture precious moment of time and space. I felt free and happy when I’m doing it. I do arts as hobby so it brought many different aspects onto what I create. I am not heavily concern with the financial burden that some artists do so my work does represent well what I like to create.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I want to see myself getting into fashion portrait as it allows me to be even more creative and learn many new techniques.
