Meet Faith Boortz of Bumblebee Sweet Shop in Alvin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Boortz.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Faith. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The most relevant parts of my story start immediately after high school graduation. I began pursuing an education in the medical field and quickly realized I had no passion for it. I dropped out of college and spent about a year aimlessly wandering through life. I had always enjoyed cooking/baking so I decided to enroll in Culinary school and make a career out of it.

I bought a cargo trailer and my grandpa, dad, and myself built it out 100% on our own. I was able to open Bumblebee Sweet Shop while still in school (I have since graduated) and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This journey has been an interesting one. We opened September 2019 and remained open until March 30th, 2020. At that point, Covid-19 was just starting to ramp up. I made the decision to take a short hiatus to work through things and refocus on my career plans. We were able to return to the same spot June 12th, 2020 and it has been fairly smooth sailing since then.

I’m at an odd stage in my life (like most people in their early 20s). I am obviously not a teenager anymore but sometimes I still feel like I’m trying to fully find my footing as an adult. I take things day by day and I’m slowly finding my place in the world and the industry. I look forward to what the future has for me and my business.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Bumblebee Sweet Shop is a food trailer and we specialize in baked goods. We are known for our cupcakes, which rotate flavors everyday and every week. Our cupcake menu consists of simple flavors (vanilla, chocolate, funfetti) and unique flavors like rocky road, peach cobbler, and Reese’s. We also have cake jars, brownies, and cookies every weekend.

We are the only trailer in Alvin and in surrounding areas that specializes in baked goods. We bake our desserts in trailer every morning to ensure freshness. Everything is scratch-made and we take great pride in that.

What were you like growing up?
I took an interest in food early on and would help my Grandma cook every chance I got. My Grandma is where my love of cooking originated, she taught me so much and made cooking fun.

Since a very young age, I was very goal-oriented and I have carried that mindset with me into adulthood.
