Today we’d like to introduce you to Tirzah Henry.
Tirzah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always had a passion for cooking since the age of 12. Through college I found more joy cooking for friends and roommates. After completing cosmetology school, I decided to move and pursue culinary school. Through culinary school I felt right at home with other eccentric people that shared the same humor and passion. Though it was hard for me to find a job in this industry I kept trying and decided to move back home and found a job in a local restaurant. Through this time, I got married and had my first son. I was offered a position at another local restaurant and there I was a wife and mother of a six-month-old working two jobs to gain as much experience as time allowed. Unfortunately, my career came to a halt due to being assaulted on the job. I then focused on being a mom and wife. After my second son was born, I desired to be back in the cooking scene. I began to feel stuck and drowning in the confines of motherhood and being a wife. I pushed myself out and started a catering business in January 2020. My first jobs were catering luncheons for Cadence Bank in the Houston area. As I gained momentum COVID brought this to an end. I was determined to still do what I love. I started cleansing to clear my mind by preparing fresh cold pressed juices for myself. As I gained clarity, I decided to buy juice bottles and started selling raw cold pressed juices. This is what I loved doing for myself and now have the opportunity to do it for others as well. This led me into preparing meal preps as well. So, I am grateful for these hard times pushing me into the right direction.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I believe the scripture that states “to whom much is given, much is required”. Often times I do well under stress. Well, so I thought. This year has been such a year of self-learning and big teacher in patience and tolerance. My road has not been smooth, there has been many road blocks and speed bumps of reflection and revelation. Through me stepping out on faith and pursuing my own business it has been taxing on my day to day routine and also my marriage. This has shaken my foundation and core. I know it won’t be easy, I do know it will be worth it. I am grateful for the mind and heart I have been given to see through the darkness. I am discovering that it is vital that one should be their strongest supporter, motivator and cheerleader. If I am confident and of sound mind then I am better able to see what’s before me in gratitude.
Tirzah Marie’s Catering Co. AKA TMC’s Juice2o – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company started basically by creating personalized menus for each event or each person’s request. This is very fun to me because I love to do many different cooking styles. I say that my specialties are Creole/Cajun and Ethiopian cuisines. My current focal point by demand is Juicing and Meal Preps. What sets TMC’s Catering apart is my intuitive ability to blend flavors and spices for around the world into all of my foods given it a hint of eureka to the taste buds. For juicing what sets TMC’s Juice2o apart is this same intuition applies and we use one hundred percent fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs. We do not use any form of sweeteners or waters as fillers in our juices. We also adjust our menu options both for catering and juices to customers dietary restrictions and needs.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is the ability to function in life with peace and understanding, success to me is being relentless in transformation and always stay in a place of learning, growth and development. As a business entity, success for me will be creating an environment for people to love their work and create a place for them to be heard and for us to be a service to our surroundings.
