Today we’d like to introduce you to D’Andre Good and LaKendra Hills.
D’Andre and LaKendra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I had thought of this in 2018 but the timing was off and thankfully it was because I was going to actually buy into a franchise which would have limited our service area. I had procrastinated but then in 2020, my cousin LaKendra and I were having a conversation about it and the next morning she called me and was like, “what do you need me to do, I love this idea and we need to make this happen.” So the next morning, we set out to make this vision a reality.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We have had a few bumps along the way, but nobody said it would be smooth sailing. One of our obstacles, was that we had started to do business with an app developer that turned out to be a scam and thankfully we caught it early before we lost too much money. We regrouped and found another developer who is local, which was great for us and have been rolling smoothly ever since. We had to adapt very quickly to the learning curve of building an entire app, but we compliment each other very well so our struggles have actually made our company stronger.
Urban Eatz Delivery – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a Food Delivery App, similar to UberEats, DoorDash, etc., but we specialize in the smaller, overlooked minority owned restaurants, food trucks, and home-based business, but we are still open to delivering for everyone. We are most proud of how everything is coming together; we took a vision and have executed it. What sets us apart are our features; our app will our drivers to pick up multiple orders at one time from a restaurant which will make getting deliveries out more efficiently, help our drivers make more money at one time instead of making multiple trips. We also have implemented a pre-order system which will allow merchants to receive more orders ahead of time and have them paid for and allow us to have drivers at locations decreasing delivery process times and increasing profits.
Lastly, one of the things we are most proud of and that sets us apart is that we are donating a portion of our monthly earnings to a charity that the business that has the most delivery orders within that month’s choice. We pride ourselves in trying to help our community.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our plans for the future are to become the most reputable Food Delivery app in Houston, and to help some of the smaller business owners in our community to grow. We also would like to eventually offer franchise opportunities to other people looking to get into this business.
