Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenna Sylvester.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Brenna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started cosmetology school after I lost my job working retail after the company, I worked for shut down. While I was working retail, I was taking college classes for a business degree. I never really felt like school was my thing, I always wanted to be creative and work in the beauty industry. After I lost my job, my now husband and I thought it was the perfect time to start school at the Paul Mitchell school of cosmetology. Within two months I started school! About 6 months into school, I saw @lizhaven was looking for an assistant.
Initially, I wasn’t looking for a job since I was getting married in a couple of months. I could not pass up on the opportunity, I knew I could learn so much from her and I admired her work! I went on the interview and got the job! I was her assist for six months by the time I graduated cosmetology school. Took my last test in July to get my license and took over Liz’s entire clientele so she could go on maternity leave by August. I knew this was my time to prove to myself that I could have the career I always dreamt of. Now, two years into my career I have a full clientele and a career I used to dream about!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I always struggled with not feeling fulfilled. Trying to go to college but not feeling like I was meant to be there. All i needed was a creative outlet!
@brenna.sylvester – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I work at @lizhaven ‘s salon, Kaleido Hair. I specialize in balayage, creating believable lived-in looks! Kaleido is a group of stylists that lift each other up, want the best for each other, and love to share techniques!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being a good listener, not only to give my clients their hair goals. But, to also listen to what’s going on in their life!
