Meet Robin Martinez of Flowers of Kingwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Martinez.

Robin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a second generation business owner of Flowers of Kingwood, Inc. I purchased this company from my parents John and Pat Hoggard April 1, 1987. I purchased and remodeled an abandoned 7-11 at 1962 Northpark Dr, Kingwood, TX 77339, Montgomery County in 2001 and moved Flowers of Kingwood to this new location. Currently Flowers of Kingwood employs 9 full time people.

Flowers of Kingwood is recognized in the Teleflora Top 500 out of 30,000 other members. Flowers of Kingwood maintains membership in East Montgomery County Chamber and Lake Houston Chamber. We have earned the BBB Award Winner of Distinction for 2010, 2011, thru 2017 and was the Pinnacle Winner for 2009. We are a member of the distinguished Floral Manager group of florists. This is an exclusive website and marketing group for select progressive florists.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Flowers of Kingwood has grown with the Kingwood community for 32 years. There have been economic ups and downs in the Houston area and we have worked internally to adjust as needed.

We have been delivering creative floral arrangements with exceptional service for 32 years! The floral industry has a saying: We are there with flowers from birth to death and all of life’s beautiful occasions in-between. Groceries also sell flowers and even though we have embraced a new opportunity for our independent retail store by partnering with a boutique grocery for impulse flower purchases in a different community; Flowers of Kingwood is convenient, on the way home and our primary focus is flowers with no other distractions as to what you need for home or dinner.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Our staff are the most important elements to our success. Quality creative designers and exceptional sales staff. I am looking for someone who can smile through all we do and that would be a happy part of the Flowers of Kingwood Team.

Our perfect team would have the floral design skills and expertise of an AIFD designer. Creative, talented, and aware of cost of goods sold formulas would be a great combination. Advanced computer skills for order entry and the ability to retain a large amount of code entries and process information between several programs. Attention to customer service and exceeding customer expectations along with remembering to sell add on gift suggestions is a trademark to meeting our goals. A good quality would be for this team member to be able to listen to each different customer and to accurately interpret the floral gift our customer is describing and create the order ticket so that the designer can correctly complete the design.

The delivery fleet team members would be able to listen for quirks in the vehicle they are driving, get the vehicle serviced on time and keep said vehicle clean all the while smiling in their clean company smock as they nicely present the floral gift to the recipient. Then using their expert very safety conscience NASCAR driving skills and advanced GPS mapping knowledge to continue to the next stop with a smile.

Management. Robin Martinez is the owner extraordinaire for 30 years. Training new staff to value themselves, to have authority and direction over their work and to embrace the good brand name of Flowers of Kingwood is her main job.
