Meet Rachel Williams of Sprinkle of Thoughts in Northwest Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Williams.

Rachel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been sort of a shy and reserved person, so writing was always something that came easy to me, but honestly I always hated most of my English classes growing up.

However, when I was in high school, social media became more and more popular and I secretly started blogging and making Tumblr pages where I would just write anything from poetry to music and film reviews, or simply just how I felt that day.

From there, I kept blogging throughout college and sharing more of my personal life and I started to gain more of a following. As a result, I began interviewing people and providing weekly content for a national blog focused on HBCUs and the Black Community as a whole and this is when I realized my writing really had an impact and I should take it more seriously.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Hmm, yes and no. Although I gain support and notoriety for my work, it’s been hard to translate that success into the professional world and manifest my craft into a career. So, it’s mainly been a hobby and “hustle” of mine. Most people don’t know, I started college as a Marketing and Mass Communication major, but I ultimately graduated with my Bachelor’s in Management. However, I was fortunate enough to get my Master’s in Strategic Communication and I’ve been roughing it ever since I graduated as I transition into the marketing and communications industry.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
So, I’m a Self-Published Writer. My first book, Sprinkle of Thoughts, is a compilation of poetry spanning across ten years of my life from when I was 14 up until now. My mission/ tagline for this venture is #ThinkOutLoud, which is all aimed to encourage everyone to find their own form of creative expression and find the courage to share the most vulnerable parts of their selves with others.

I’m most proud of the fact that even with my limited resources and knowledge of publishing, I just went for it and I’m still figuring this all out as I go. I’m also transparent and I think people tend to find that extremely admirable.

For these same reasons, I believe is what sets me apart from others because it wasn’t something I “planned” to do. I told one of my good friends (jokingly) “You know? I should write a book” then it sort of hit me… “No, wait, I can actually do this” and within a week, I figured out exactly how to do it and do it for free.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
There’s a quote that goes, “The destination never changes, just the ETA,” and I believe that wholeheartedly when it comes to life. I’ve always been the person who just tried to do what seems right, expect the best, and not stress myself out about having all the little details fully figured out, because in the end God always comes through.

So, luck, divine intervention, manifestation, faith lol whatever you want to call it, has DEFINITELY been the key to my life.
