Today we’d like to introduce you to Lolita Guarin.
Lolita, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I came to Houston from Lithuania 20 years ago to achieve my American dream. I knew that was the right place for me to achieve anything as long I work hard. And so I did. I worked in a corporate environment as hard as I could. I got more and more work from my supervisors and always helped my coworkers with their work, presentations, and extra office activities. I was so afraid to tell them “no” that soon I would work 60 hour weeks. My diet was inferior, Hot Pockets for lunch and pizza for dinner. The only exercise I got was walking to the office and using a lady’s room during the day.
My stress levels were over the roof, and soon I saw how my health started to decline. Stress threw my hormones out of balance. One night I just collapsed on the kitchen floor and was rushed to the emergency room. That was my big wake up call. I had coworkers telling me that we all have stress, and somehow that is ok. I didn’t want to take pills and make myself numb for the rest of my life. I went on a quest for natural ways to manage stress and found plenty of ways to keep myself energized and productive all day long. So I started sharing my techniques with others and became a Certified Stress Management Expert.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When I became a Certified Stress Management Coach and started helping others with stress, I was wearing lots of hats like any other entrepreneur. I created my website, content on social media, looking for clients, coaching, and developing online programs. I am sure any business owner can identify with me, especially when you are just starting. And let me tell you, it was stressful! I had a chance to apply my expertise and discover new stress management techniques that helped not only me but also other entrepreneurs. As I evolved as an entrepreneur, I was finding more ways to help others!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My passion is to help people understand that stress management should not be stressful and that simple stress management techniques can make a considerable impact on your energy and stress levels. When I started networking, I found myself being only one stress management coach in the area. There were plenty of business coaches, health coaching, but not stress management. It was surprising to me because one of the most significant impacts on our health is stress. I was shocked to find out that the biggest women killer is not cancer, but heart disease. Stress causes inflammation in the body, which tremendously affects our cardiovascular and other systems in the body. So it was surprising how little attention was given to stress. When I became a speaker and approached organizations to teach their employees how to manage stress in the work environment, not many wanted me to talk, at first. Somehow they would think that nutritionist and health coach was more valuable to them.
Happily, this point of view changed a lot in a few years. I am being approached by many organizations to teach their employees stress management in the workplace. I have been participating in multiple shows and podcasts, and I am happy that finally, we can take control of something that can help us to be healthier and live more productive lives. I do group coaching as well as one-on-one coaching. I also have online programs that teach how to manage stress, increase productivity, and learn to say “no” with confidence. I have created the program specifically for busy professionals, and right now, during a pandemic, I teach online how to manage stress during the lockdown. I also published a book called “Crush Stress While You Work” that is available on Amazon.
What were you like growing up?
I am only one child, no sisters or brothers. So I grew up being the best because you can’t compeer me with anyone else. And at the same time, I had 100% of my parents’ attention, which was not that great as some might think. When something broke, my parents knew who did it. 🙂 I would love to have a sibling, so I can share my sorrows and happiness, ask someone opinion and be of support. When my parents came to live in Houston, suddenly, from being the only child, I became a single mother with two kids. I was very creative and into writing, arts from an early age. I loved playing on the piano. I finished five years of a music school in three years since I was talented. I published my first short story, age fifteen. And since then, been writing, publishing books.
