Meet Moose Rosenfeld of Network In Action in Southwest Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Moose Rosenfeld.

Moose, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a native Houstonian! I had a great life growing up! My dad was Dickie Rosenfeld who was the general manager of Houston’s top rock station, KILT AM. He was known as the guy that brought The Beatles to Houston for 2 shows in August 1965. That which was my first concert! We sat 4th-row center aisle. Super loud! Incredible 45 minute show! I was 12 at the time and knew that we were witnessed something very special! Dickie also brought Elvis to the Astrodome. We were blessed to see great entertainers and bands in concert growing up!

As a kid, I would listen to his stories about his radio advertisers and all the promotions KILT was famous for. We often got to go to the radio station when it was located at 500 Lovett Blvd. and meet the DJ’s, sales people, and the behind the scene employees. I knew one day I would be working in Radio!

I started my first radio job is sales in San Antonio in 1974 at KONO/KITY. I was recruited to Shreveport, La the following year and spent nine years at KRMD AM/FM.

I was asked to help build a brand new radio station in Reno / Lake Tahoe NV. in 1984. I spent 6 1/2 years at KBUL FM. We built a powerhouse country station from the ground up. Due to a family illness, I knew I need to get closer to home and moved back to Houston New Years’ Day of 1991. I helped put Smooth Jazz 106.9 on the air. KILT FM dominated the ratings as a Country format for many years. In 1994, Dickie asked me to help him build Houston’s first all-sports station. I jumped at the chance! We flipped to all-sports in September 1994. We built a great station. We owned the sports radio market! I’m proud to say we had incredible growth throughout my tenure at 610 Sports. I held sales positions and upper-level management roles throughout my career. I retired from radio in 2003, three years after my dad’s passing. I started my 2nd career in advertising and digital media and did that for 10 years, thus leading me to my third and final career! Network In Action.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I received a phone call from Scott Talley in November 2014 asking me to meet him. He had an idea he wanted to share with me. It was Network In Action. He felt he had a more efficient & effective way to network. I was intrigued with the model and became the first NIA franchisee in 2015. I launched NIA Galleria that July. I launched NIA Bellaire in January 2016 and NIA Memorial Park in April 2018.

This has been a fairly easy transition. I knew a lot of business owners from my previous careers. I was part of two different business networking groups for 10 years prior to NIA. Our biggest challenge in the beginning was that no one knew of Network In Action. This wasn’t really hard for me. Back to my radio days, I moved to new markets and didn’t know a sole. I came away knowing lots of people! Our model works for just about every industry there is. We now have over 50 franchise owners in 14 states. Network In Action is becoming a name many people are familiar with. Our growth in greater Houston has been phenomenal. We have some outstanding leaders!

Network In Action – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Network In Action is an industry exclusive business model that meets on a monthly basis. We are Houston’s only professionally run business networking group. We are very technology-driven. My role as a franchisee is to help build out my groups with owners/decision makers in their company and seasoned sales people. I am in essence, the community builder and membership director. I am good guy to know and connect with. My phone rings every day from a friend, colleague, family member looking for a connection, a referral or even business advice. I love what I do! It brings me great joy to know I have had a hand in helping my NIA members. They are my extended family!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Living in the moment and never getting tired of helping people. I love supporting non-profits, including my good friend Theresa Strong, executor director of Bel-Inizio. Her mission of helping underprivileged women get back on track with a nutrition and fitness regimen is fantastic. She has changed the lives of over 800 women who have completed her eight week course and completed a 5K.

I’m a co-founder of the Bad Pants Open Golf Tournament, benefiting The Newborn Center at Texas Children’s Hospital. We have raised over $7.5 million for families affected by early births since 1998! Super proud of this! Our BPO committee and the TCH staff have been great to work with! We even have a wing named after the Bad Pants Open at Texas Children’s Hospital Medical District and 4 years, our committee committed a million dollar donation to put in a NICU at the TCH Woodlands campus.
