Meet Lori Slott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Slott.

Lori, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always had a love for photography. Growing up, my dad was a hobbyist and developed his own pictures in his darkroom (aka, the hall bathroom)! I guess that’s where it began. I almost always had a camera with me taking pictures of nature, animals, friends and family. When my children were little, I even won a small photography contest with an inexpensive point and shoot camera, but never really thought about growing that interest into a business. A few years ago, my friend and now mentor was training someone else in the photography business and I wondered if she’d be willing to train me too. I asked her a few months later and of course, she said yes! I jumped in and have been loving it! I now serve The Woodlands, Spring, Conroe, Magnolia, Montgomery, and Willis areas. I love working with families and children and other women entrepreneurs!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is anything worthwhile ever a smooth road? Ha! No, it hasn’t always been smooth. As with any new project, there have been learning curves. Especially with photography and other arts, your finished project is very subjective. What one person likes, someone else may not like. And like many photographers, I struggled to figure out my “niche.” I’ve felt impatient sometimes, wanting my business to bloom and take-off faster than it is, but I remind myself that it IS growing and I’m so thankful for that. As with any business, it takes time!

First and foremost, I’m a mom and wife. Family is my top priority, second to my relationship with God. And God is teaching me so much in the process. I finally put my “why” into words and that’s fueling me to reach more families, to not only serve them with memories and works of art for their home but to minister to them and encourage them to make life more meaningful! I think one of the most important factors in making the road as smooth as possible has been the amazing support from friends and family!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m a natural light photographer serving the North Houston/I-45 Corridor, especially Spring, The Woodlands, Conroe, Magnolia, Willis, and Huntsville areas. But I also occasionally offer sessions at the beach and some beautiful farms in Navasota! I love serving families! Everything from the first birthday cake smash, to fun children’s, themed mini sessions, to family portraits to graduation, getting engaged, and maternity sessions! My aim is to capture the love, joy, and connection in a family and help create an experience that further bonds them together and adds to their unique family story!

I also love helping and supporting other entrepreneurs to thrive with business, product, and headshot photography. As a business owner, I know how important it is to have photos that stand out on social media and professional, confidence, but relatable branded photos of yourself!
