Today we’d like to introduce you to Timika Prudhomme-McDaniel.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I come from a close-knit family and we love to get together to cook, eat, and enjoy each other. Almost every Sunday, we would have dinner after church and we all would have to cook or bring something. I’ve always loved sweets as a kid and I’ve always enjoyed the creativity in how intricate some desserts can become, the possibilities are endless. At our family gatherings, I was always asked, “MiMi what dessert you bringing this time'”? I always wanted to try something different from the time before. As I would watch my family eat their dessert and it seemed as if their souls enjoyed eating it, my hunger grew for wanting more. I found myself saying to them, “try this. This is going to be on my bakery menu”. I did not know that the words I was speaking into the atmosphere, God would start making a desire of my heart. I work a M-F, 9-5 job, but would go to sleep and wake up with cake and desserts on my mind. I couldn’t shake the need to look, learn, and practice baking cakes, brownies, cookies, and cupcakes with my own twist.
The Bible says in Habakkuk 2:2, “Write the vision and make it plain”, and that’s exactly what I did. I would jot down my thoughts and ideas in my phone so that I would always have my vision close to me. I would pray that God would reveal to me if this was my purpose, to bring joy to people with “Heaven on a fork” as my sister would say. I was then asked to make a dessert table for my Pastor’s Anniversary at church in Oct. 2019 and the response was so overwhelming to where I knew at that time that this is what I am purposed to do. This is where MiMi’s Kreative Kreations, was birthed and in November 2019 I put out my first dessert menu for the Thanksgiving holiday and I have been full throttle ever since. God has truly blessed my home-based treat shop with continued return customers and new as well.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely not been a “smooth road” as some would say. For me, the biggest hurdle has been not to stand in my own way by doubting my ability. When starting MiMi’s Kreative Kreations, I knew so many people that baked and I was in my head a lot about if people would want to support my business. But, my husband would remind me that God blessed my hands, heart, and He didn’t bring me this far to leave me. Another bump in the road has been the juggling of maintaining work and home life now the pressures of starting a successful baking business.
MiMi’s Kreative Kreations “aka” Thee Cake Slayer – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
MiMi’s Kreative Kreations is currently a home-based treat shop. I specialize in “kreating your vision with Heaven on a fork”. I create the most decadent and moist custom cakes, bundts, cheesecakes, cupcakes, and the infamous “Banana Pudding Cake”, along with other sweet treats and desserts. If you can think of it, MiMi will create it. One of my proudest accomplishments so far is, being an inspiration to my children. By them watching the hard work and late nights that I’ve been putting in along with overcoming any obstacles and I find a way to keep pushing forward. It has made them want to learn something that brings them joy and find a way to become successful by doing so. As a mother, I couldn’t ask for anything more. I truly believe what sets MiMi’s Kreative Kreations apart from other businesses is that God has his hands on me and my business and HE specifically chose me for it.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I would define success for myself as pursuing whatever in life that brings you happiness. Some people search an entire lifetime for happiness because they try to find it in other things other than themselves. Once you understand what is needed in your life to live with a peace of mind, then you’re bound to have success.
