Today we’d like to introduce you to Terry Munoz.
Terry, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started out in the outdoor hospitality industry in 1988 while a student at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. As a college student looking for a part-time job, I heard about an opening with Thousand Trails RV Resorts and applied for a part-time seasonal position. I quickly fell in love with the industry, and after graduation, accepted my first management position with the company. I have been working in property management ever since.
Currently, I am a Regional Manager for Equity Lifestyle Properties, which acquired the Thousand Trails network of RV resorts in 2008. This passion also brought me to serve on the board of the Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO) as well as the National Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds board (ARVC) and their Executive Committee. Currently I also serve on my local school board as President. With more than 28 years of experience in the industry, I really enjoy sharing the knowledge and expertise I have gained with my team of RV property managers and help them grow their properties to be the best they can be. I enjoy staying involved with both the state and national industry organizations to lend a hand whenever possible.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been smooth for the most part of my career. The challenges that we face today are really keeping up with industry demands as they advance in such a fast pace. Things such as power requirements (50 amp and higher needs of today’s RVs), technology (providing modern cable and Wi-Fi systems) and the growing popularity of the RV lifestyle are fun challenges that I enjoy because I know when achieved, everyone is happier.
Please tell us about Encore Thousand Trails.
The fun and friendly environment that I get to go to everyday is what makes it worthwhile. Encore/Thousand Trails caters to both families and full time RV owners, so we host thousands of people and have many unique situations that make my work exciting. Our customer service is outstanding and our properties across North America are great as well, so I really enjoy the people I come in contact with. I’m really proud that Lake Conroe RV & Camping Resort is a back-to-back winner of the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence Award, as it proves that what we are doing with both our employees and customers is being appreciated.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
There’s nothing I don’t like about Lake Conroe and the Houston area. Houston is currently the fastest growing city in the US which I love to be a part of. There is really something for everyone. The area offers lots of shopping, great restaurants, local distilleries, elegant wineries and Lake Conroe is a 22,000 acre paradise, considered to be Houston’s playground!
