Meet Melissa Borrego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Borrego.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always known I wanted to create a life of generational wealth for my family and my future family that follows. My grandmother moved here from Mexico to provide a better life for her children and she paved the way for them and future generations. My mother was single and working two jobs to keep my brothers and I fed and lights on in the house while playing the role of a mother and father. We didn’t have a silver spoon nor did we have it easy for that matter. These are the reasons I am determined to become something more in life. Before I started Real Estate, I was working in the Food industry full time while juggling college four days out of the week. I noticed that I was getting stuck in the same routine day after day and I knew something had to change.

I asked the universe for a sign to the right direction, something that would get me one step closer to where I want to be. Later that week, I received an invitation from an acquaintance to join the Real Estate company that they were working for. I was a bit skeptical because I had no clue about Real Estate at the time but I knew I had to take a leap of faith. I started off as an administrative assistant and got a small taste of the Real estate world. It was then that I knew this wasn’t just happenstance, but fate.

I procured my License on October 31’st, 2018… HALLOWEEN! I couldn’t believe it, out of all the dates. I definitely had two reasons to celebrate that year! I took Real Estate on full time. It has been two years now and what an amazing journey it has been! A beautiful one to say the least… It has not been easy, some days I was faced with extreme obstacles and overcame each and every last one of them with tenacity and perseverance. I have learned so much and met so many amazing people along the way who have taught me valuable lessons, no matter how good or bad the situation.

I pride myself in helping and educating my buyers and sellers and staying prepared to face any challenges that come at us along the way. There is so much more that I have in the works and I am super excited to see all of my goals coming to fruition. This is only the beginning, Houston… I’m coming for you!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I knew this journey would not be easy. Real Estate is pure hustle, drive and heart! You definitely have to get out of your comfort zone. Which was not easy for me. I had to start from scratch and build my own business from the ground up. I struggled a bit in my first year trying to find my niche… I had to learn everything through experience. You don’t really get a handbook on what to expect. I would make cold calls and door knock almost everyday with little to no success.

Being an entrepreneur is not easy. Often times, you will find yourself feeling discouraged and unmotivated to do anything which eventually leads to questioning yourself, Could I make it? is this even the right career path for me? I’ve felt that way quite often. Although I wasn’t where I wanted to be in my career, I knew I had to snap back to reality. I realized that if I m going to do something great, I don’t want to do it in half measures I want to go all-in and keep moving forward. Which for me meant taking the bad with the good and flipping it to my advantage. One thing was for certain, giving up was not an option!

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I thrive on Educating my clients and showing them the ropes when it comes to buying and selling. Not many people know what to expect or where to even start. It is imperative that they have a smooth and educated transaction to be able to give them an EXPERIENCE. A quote that I use in my day to day life is “Give a person a fish and they will eat for a day; teach a person to fish and they will eat for a lifetime”. I don’t want to just make a commission, I want to give my clients something of value while building a relationship with them. Knowledge is something they can carry with them no matter what and that is what I strive for.

I would say what sets me apart from others in this industry is my passion, optimism and tenacity. I will not give up until my clients are satisfied. My business thrives on the feeling of getting my clients to the finish line of their dream home and having their best interest at heart!

Real Estate is only one of my many business ventures that I plan on undergoing for the meantime, I will continue to give my clients a superior experience!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Honestly, I have had the best supporters with me every step of the way. My significant other and my brothers have been my biggest cheerleaders in absolutely every endeavor and for that, I am eternally grateful!
