Meet Debra Myers of Enfusia in The Woodlands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debra Myers.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I developed stress-induced eczema in my early twenties and was frustrated with traditional bath and body products, which used harsh chemicals and fragrances that worsened my condition. With my background as a cosmetologist and medical aesthetician, I felt I could create products that would be better for me and also could help others with their needs, too. Working in my kitchen, I developed a line and partnered with an herbalist and chemist to give my new product stability and integrity. In 2008, Enfusia was born and we began to manufacture and distribute our artisan bath and body products. We now occupy a 9,000-square-foot facility in The Woodlands where we make our products, and we’re very proud to say it is FDA Registered and NSF Certified, which assures suppliers, retailers, regulators and consumers that an independent organization has reviewed Enfusia’s manufacturing process and has determined that our products comply with specific standards for safety, quality, sustainability or performance.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Most entrepreneurs understand bumpy roads. I love transparency and I believe so much can be learned from obstacles and failures. Under no circumstances has it been smooth, even when it should be smooth it isn’t. There are two ongoing struggles — cash and employees. Managing cash and understanding financials are the most important things for any business owner. If you do not have an understanding of your profit margins and expenses, there is no way to have the complete picture of your business. You need to be diligent and especially look for all the hidden expenses since so many items can slip through the cracks. Another ongoing challenge are employees. Most small companies cannot compete with the salaries and benefits of large companies and that makes talent acquisition as well as retention more difficult. After 12 years in business, we are very fortunate to have a stable and loyal team.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are an artisan small batch bath products manufacturer very well known for our quality and service. We manufacture everything by hand and our customers love this aspect of our business. We are also a private label manufacturer, which is a fun aspect of our business because we help companies bring their vision to life. It is a super competitive world and keeping customers happy is very important. One of the items I am most proud of is our continuous quality and the fact we have survived and thrived despite the competitive landscape and even through the pandemic.

We are continuously looking at developing new products and scents within our existing product line. One example of our innovation was during the pandemic. At the beginning, one of our largest retailers requested that we make hand sanitizer for them to keep up with customer demand. After this, we created an all-new product no one thought they’d ever need—Cloth Mask Refresher Spray. The spray went from idea to shelf in under 21 days!

Pricing:

We are committed to keeping our prices affordable while still providing high-quality products made from Texas-sourced ingredients. Customers are tired of overpaying for products that are not always the highest quality. They are equally tired of “cheap” products from overseas and want to support domestically made products of all kinds, which we hear time and time again. We work hard to keep our prices reasonable, and we won’t sacrifice quality.
