Meet Kyle Charles Mathews of K Mathews Group in Southwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Charles Mathews.

Kyle Charles, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born October 25, 1974 in Saginaw Michigan to two amazing parents, my father, Charles Mathews a hardworking educated man who’s principles were built on faith and family. Then there was my 5ft no nonsense mother, Barbara Mathews, who was an educator and nurturer. She had this uncanny knack to give you a look that exclaimed she meant business and in that same moment she could give you a stare that said “I love you” and it was going to be ok.

My parents divorced in 1981 and my mother moved our family to Texas and started a new life for us. A life and friends I grew to love, but they didn’t love me back, because as a result of my choices, I was in and out of trouble straying away from the foundation that my parents had given me. During my teenage years in Texas, I had several interactions with the law, each time getting just a slap on the wrist. Until one day in 1994, I made a decision which changed not only my life but my family’s life forever. It is often said that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction and my actions on that Fall morning caused me to end up with a gunshot wound to my face and a 40 years prison sentence. I would end up spending the next 23 years of my life in a Texas prison.

During that time spent confined, I was able to find out who my true self was through self-reflection and self-inventory. I was in a position that provoked me to truly begin to evaluate who Kyle was and how my choices had affected not only me but my mother and father as well. Prison became my home, it became the place that I would come to know as the nucleus of where I learned all of my life lessons from being a young man to manhood. Day in and day out you see the same people, the same routines, and it appears things are staying the same, while the world outside of prison is changing and I was determined to change with it, even as an incarcerated man. While in prison, I made a conscious decision to only all my body to be imprisoned and not my mind. I had to be intentional about my choices and how I was going to make life look different for me on the outside of the prison walls. I understood clearly that my success in life could not start upon my release, but I begin work almost ten years before they agreed to grant me parole. During my tenure in the Texas prison system, I decided I was going to educate myself and therefore, I enrolled in college, where received an Associate’s Degree in Art for Lamar State College and a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Houston Clearlake. My proudest moment being the Bachelor of Science degree which specialized in sociology and psychology. I learned a great deal about myself and also the human condition in these United States and the world as a whole.

Also, during my journey towards redemption, I decided that I was going to be an investor and an entrepreneur. I dedicated years focusing my studies on being able to maximize my limited opportunities I knew I would inevitably face once I was released. I understand that even after paying retribution within the Texas Prison system, no matter how many degrees I received, I was still going to be viewed on the surface as #728942 and I made a vow to myself that I was much more than an eight digit TDCJ number. . . I decided that I was going to control the narrative, that I was going to write my own story and that I was going to be released back into society empowered with the tools necessary to determine how successful I was going to be, to ensure that I was better than I was when I entered prison as a young 20 years old. I read every book and publication that was going to make me a better man, a better individual, that would equip me with information that would change my life and provide me with the tools to help change the lives of others. I was released from prison May 2018 and I have not looked back, I have focused my energy on financial education and the participation in the foreign exchange market, which is the largest financial market on earth. Statistics state that 70% of individuals released from prison will return within 3-5 years, my goal is to return, but only to be a beacon of light to those who are there, to show them that if they change their mindset and believe that they can, anything is possible. I have made a commitment to myself and the legacy of my mother Barbara Mathews to be a change agent.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest struggle was evolving into manhood in a place that was not created by design for growth or evolution. During my incarceration, I struggled with the natural occurrences that most young men my age deal with and instead of preparing for life as a college student, I was facing the daily routines of navigating prison life. Not only am I faced with dealing with the realities of a 40 years prison sentence, which I thought life couldn’t get any worse and then it did, on Thursday, April 30th 2011, I received a call that my biggest fan, my best friend, the one who demonstrated unconditional love at it’s finest the one person who believed in me more than I believed in myself was in a comatose state and it was my responsibility to make the decision to remove her from life support. It was at that moment, my life as I knew it would never be the same.

My Sunday visit every other week was over, that smile I could see as I took long strides down the hall on my way to the visitation table, I had seen for the last time, the one place that took me away from the walls of the Ramsey Unit, the one safe space in my life was now no more and I thought life was over. Coming out of incarceration as we know present its own set of challenges, lack of employment, housing and family reunification. The task of having to prove to society that I am more than my offense, that I am more than a TDJC is a challenge, but it becomes a roadblock only if you allow it. Being in finance the other biggest challenge are the access to capital funding and the belief that someone formally incarcerated could not be redeemed, thus trusted in the realm of finance. Getting people to believe in me is an obstacle that I refuse to let stop me from my goals. I have come to realize that the only person that can stop me from becoming the man I desire to be is no. I will not give anyone else that kind of power.

Please tell us about K Mathews Group.
Because of my intense desire to succeed and decision not to accept failure as an option, upon my release from prison, I established the K. Mathews Group, aka KMG. The mission of KMG is to bring financial awareness and participation to both the credit and the foreign exchange market. We specialize in helping people build and preserve their credit, and as well as instruct and inform people how to participate and profit in the trillion-dollar foreign exchange market. The KMG group specialize in educating our clients and partners throughout their financial journey by providing the necessary tools needed to build both a nest egg for current times, but also generational wealth and a legacy. We are most proud of the fact that we can shed light on the financial instruments that have been kept in the dark from so many for so many years. What sets us apart from others is that we not only provide the necessary tools for financial success but also ways of profiting from their education. The number one goal of The K Mathews Group is to impact millions of lives by bringing the world of financial education to the masses in an easy to understand and duplicatable way.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is getting my first dog, Spike. He was followed shortly thereafter by Shara and Torock. They brought me unbridled joy and affection all the time. Being an only child growing up, my animals served as companions, they gave me sense of belonging. I also loved fishing trips with my dad. The valuable life lessons he taught me still have an impact on me to this day.
